Immediate relief of the beneficiaries’ survival needs (provision of food and hygiene items) 2. Addressing the psychological and social effects of poverty and social marginalization (psychosocial support of children) 3. Supporting the social inclusion of unemployed youth, through assisting them to obtain labor skills and their integration in the labor market. The project is expected to support at least 145 children, 100 families and 45 unemployed young people in the Thriassian Plain are of Greece.

Summary of project results

Thriasian Plain is mainly inhabited by families that are traditionally employed in construction and industry, sectors that are facing acute economic problems (unemployment) and social issues of discrimination and social exclusion due to origin (Roma families and families from third countries). The Children Support Centre of Elefsis has a "privileged" position in the region. As a result of its longstanding action, it approaches the beneficiaries and intervenes with relative ease because, for them, it represents a part of the local community. The project has supported children, youths and families that live in the Thriasian Plain and belong in vulnerable groups due to poverty, unemployment, origin, religion etc., by strengthening and increasing the social welfare services for them. The purpose of the activities was to relieve viability issues, to address the psychological and social impacts of economic poverty and social marginalization, and to support the inclusion of unemployed youths by helping them to acquire job skills and enter the labor market. The project exceeded its initial objectives; a total of 691 individuals were directly supported. Specifically, 151 children participated in the daily feeding activity and the educational empowerment programs; 50 families with 495 members were supported though the catering actions 'Package for Home "as well as by the provision of cleaning and personal hygiene materials; 45 unemployed young people participated in programs that aimed to enhance their work skills and support the process of finding a job, such as English and PCi courses, attendance at the relevant certification exams, seminars, etc.
