Description
Textile finishes for easy-care or wrinkle-free treatments have been carried out with traditional compounds that include formaldehyde, which causes respiratory problems, dermatological problems, headaches and is classified as a possible carcinogen. The objective of the project is the development of products and application systems for easy-care and wrinkle-free finishes that use compounds without formaldehyde. The aim is to achieve a target of 0% formaldehyde content. The beneficiary groups are the workers of the textile finishing companies, who will work safely without content of formaldehyde in the place of work and the final users of textile garments.
Summary of project results
The necessity to undertake the project was perceived because of the increasing demand in textile industry for new solutions as alternative for the use of formaldehyde content products, which are continuously restricted by legislation because of the risk for the health. The objective of the project was to create a formaldehyde-free compound for wrinkle-free finishing in textile industry, focussing on cellulosic fabrics and carried out with the intention of keeping quality standards in the treated fabric. The development work was mainly based on the formulation of the new compound and testing treated samples to check the performance, combining elements and additives until finally find a satisfying formaldehyde-free solution. Therefore, this new development allows the company (ADRASA) to offer a completely new product in the market which is expected to acquiring relevance as the legislation increases the restrictions and concerns about the risk of use formaldehyde.
