Description

The project gives youth not only a chance to shape their values and interests, but also a platform to actively express and fulfill them. By empowering active citizenship among youth, this project contributes to the development of viable and participatory civil society. Young people form activist groups that organize at least 5 grass-root campaigns and documentary film screenings. The main beneficiaries are gymnasium students, but also as the screenings and campaigns rise the general knowledge about human rights, active participation and civic visibility, the community and society in general benefit from the project. To support the activist groups, NGO Mondo provides campaigning manuals, documentary films and workshops for the participants, youth-workers and teachers. In order to achieve greater impact, capacity and sustainability, the project links youth groups to local NGOs for cooperation.

Summary of project results

The aim of the project was to raise awareness among young people on fundamental rights and citizenship. For that purpose various events were organised to empower young people to plan and design different campaigns combining multimedia and social media, various actions and awareness raising events. Young people watched various documentary films about global education and human rights and discussed the topics with a range of experts. As a result of the project altogether 15 youth documentary clubs were formed and 7 new social ad campaigns were carried out. NGO Mondo has attracted new volunteers and its activities are now better known outside the capital among Russian-speaking youth. In addition, during the course of the project NGO Mondo acquired new documentaries to its library as well as worked out various campaign materials with participation from the youth. Direct beneficiaries of the project are the youth that were directly engaged and are now more knowledgeable about the rights and human rights globally and are thus prone to contribute to advancing human rights in the future.
