Description

According to USAID NGO sustainability index the institutional capacity of civil society organisations is one of the main challenges of Estonian NGOs together with financial sustainability, which influences NGOs impact and role in society. Development Programme is a capacity building project for Estonian CSOs with following outputs: - analytical recommendations for improving performance of 30 organisations; - solutions for developmental needs, including partners for mutual learning; - increased ability of collaboration in the sector; - experts, enterprises and public sector is more open to cooperation with NGOs; - business and public sector is more involved in the third sector development - information about NGOs developmental needs and dissemination. At least 30 organizations will improve their everyday potential. A long term impact is the cross-sectoral collaboration, higher management quality, increased citizen activtism and strengthened civil society.

Summary of project results

This was a capacity building project to support and empower Estonian civil society organizations (CSOs) by analyzing their needs, preparing plans for solving these needs and finding new voluntary partners to advance the organizational development of the CSOs and increase their capacity to achieve greater impact and actual results. Effective CSOs mean more powerful advocacy and more professional and quality services (or other activities) which are beneficial equally to the end user as well as to the society. Influential and strong CSOs are able to increase citizen activism and, in so doing, strengthen civil society. The main activities of the project included: - Evaluation activities and agreement on individual activity plan for each participant - Total of 14 training seminars and joint counseling sessions - Introducing 19 volunteer partners - Monitoring the implementation of the activity plans and evaluation - Meeting(s) for mutual learning are planned to the very end of the program - Final evaluation of participants and recommendation for follow-up conclude the program As a concrete result, at least 30 organizations (25 Estonian-speaking and 5 Russian-speaking) improved their daily potential; they are maximizing their organizational capacity and are working systematically with their development so that they would be more effective and achieve greater impact in the society.
