Description

Our objective is to develop data visualization/presentation capacity and use in daily work to achieve greater impact within the think tank as well as among NGOs in general. We wish to bring together civil society experts with specialists in other fields to help NGOs improve their presentation skills when displaying results of implemented projects and advocacy efforts in a more transparent fashion. Currently data visualization remains widely unused in Estonia; we want NGOs to be able to apply these skills in their work. We will organize trainings and workshops on skills development open to representatives of the think tank as well as other NGOs in cooperation with creative designers. Initial visualizations will be developed and presented during the course. This training module will become a new service offered by the think tank to be used in capacity building development of other organizations in presenting targeted visualized information on activities and achieved results. The main target group includes analysts of the think tank; other NGOs that use our analyses in their advocacy efforts and experts in the field; and creative people as collaboration partners.

Summary of project results

The objective of the project was capacity building in the field of data visualization and presentation in the daily work of the organization in order to achieve greater impact within the think tank and among NGOs at large and this objective was reached. In cooperation with the recognized creative designer Janno Siimar a training was organized for Praxis analysts; in addition, a seminar on public data and visualization was held and active learning workshops for developing practical skills in data visualization were given by Tanel Kärp and Indrek Treufeldt. At the beginning of the project the goal was to create 5 practical infographics, in reality all teams in the workshop (15 in total) managed to create good workable solutions that support the activities of the organization. As an added value a training module was put together that can be used as a basis by the think tank when offering targeted capacity building trainings to other organizations, including NGOs, in using data visualization to present their work and achieved results. The project was a great example of collaboration between various sectors (NGOs, business sector, public sector and educational institution) and development of a new format for workshops/trainings. Permanent cooperation with students at the Estonian Academy of Arts was also established.
