Description

This project is a response to the problem of low gender issue awareness, lack of information and the lack of interest of the largest groups of women living in Czech regions (smaller towns and municipalities) who do not have the opportunity or motivation to learn more about the issue of gender equality and women’s rights. Gender enlightenment and presentation of the issue of equal opportunities, including educational and information material, has been reserved to experts so far. What has been missing is the perspective and contribution of women themselves. Therefore our activities focus on them. The partner project of three organisations aims at motivating the majority of the female population to take an interest in equal opportunities through an original publication. The publication will be promoted at a regional seminar and a conference in Prague, publicized and distributed among the target group. The project also wants to support a group of women in the Vysočina region in founding a women’s organisation – through a series of workshops (with the themes of boosting self-confidence, looking for one’s own strong points and emancipation).

Summary of project results

This project focused on women returning to the labour market after maternity leave. These women often seek employment unsuccessfully because they take care of small children and lack proper information and support from their surroundings. The aim of this project, which was based on a partnership of three organisations, was to raise awareness of equal opportunities for women and men among ordinary Czech women. We supported a group of women in setting up their own organisation, which offers activities for women in the Vysočina Region. The organisation is now independent and has begun to organise workshops for local women. We also worked on raising awareness among employers and the public about the forms and benefits of flexible forms of employment for this target group. In collaboration with two other organisations, we have created a publication that is now widely distributed in a targeted manner. Both the activities in the region and the publication received considerable media attention. These facts demonstrate the sustainability of the project, the objectives of which were fully met.
