Description

The project addresses the need of the applicant to improve its skills for advocacy and lobbying to perform better its role of a mediator between the Roma community and the local authorities in the town of Lom. The project aims at improving the skills of the applicant’s team via a series of trainings. First, the applicant will set up the Young Journalist Club and will train 60 young Roma volunteers in the basics of journalism. Second, the applicant’s team and the permanent volunteers (15 people) will attend 6 two-day trainings on efficient communication, negotiations, conflict management, decision-making, teamwork and introduction to the local social, education and labour programmes available to the Roma community. Third, the applicant’s website will be maintained. Finally, monthly training of volunteers will be carried out to build a local network of volunteers. The project will benefit the applicant’s team, volunteers, the Roma community and local authorities.

Summary of project results

The project addressed the need of the applicant to improve its skills for advocacy and lobbying to perform better its role of a mediator between the Roma community and the local authorities in the town of Lom. It increased the opportunities of the Roma community in Lom Municipality to receive up-to-date information about the social processes and get involved in them. The young volunteers trained by the Foundation are motivated to help their peers develop an active civil position and are committed to the issues of young people from the town and municipality of Lom. At the end of the project more and more people from the community started seeking help from the staff of Mladenovo Foundation for various problems. Project outcomes: - 15 staff members of Mladenovo Foundation were trained during 6 training sessions wot work with the Roma community. They acquired knowledge and skills in advocacy, monitoring and use in practice of civil control forms. - 60 young people were trained and the Young Journalist Club was set up. - After the end of the project activities the volunteers involved at the Young Journalist Club will continue their work and plan future initiatives. - The number of visitors of the organization’s website have considerably increased since the project end; - The organization has been recognized by the community as an intermediary to solve issues and more and more people are turning to it; - 3500 people were provided information about the work of the local authorities.
