Description

The project addresses youth unemployment and growing depopulation of rural areas in Lovech District. The project aims at establishing intersectoral partnership between the stakeholders (the business, local and central administration, NGOs, the public) to overcome the two problems. First, mapping of the stakeholders (the business, NGOs, administration) will be carried out in Lovech District and job opportunities will be mapped in the neighbouring Pleven and Veliko Tarnovo Districts. Second, a network of the stakeholders will be set up. Third, 3 workshops will be carried out with 60 stakeholders to discuss the reasons for depopulation and youth unemployment, possible solution and citizen engagement. Finally, the awareness of the local community will be raised. The project will benefit the local communities, the business, the NGOs and the local authorities in Lovech District.

Summary of project results

The project addressed depopulation and youth unemployment in Lovech District which have become more concerning due to the long-standing inaction by the state and the community and the lack of coordinated actions and policies to solve the issue. The project aimed at initiating and creating an intersectoral partnership to counteract depopulation and youth unemployment in Lovech District and unite and coordinate the efforts of the local authorities, institutions, the state, the civil sector and the business in order to find adequate and acceptable decisions. The goal was achieved. The project brought together the stakeholders (decision-makers (8), public administration staff (7), NGOs (7), businessmen (40)) who rarely meet and even more rarely less engage in discussion to address the scale and sources of the issue with depopulation and youth unemployment in Lovech District. The discussions resulted in new ideas for joint actions and initiatives some of which were translated into projects competing in open procedures for funding. Owing to the coordination of Zhivo Selo Foundation, the relations established under the partnership have continued to develop and expand. 3 analyses were carried out under the project on the reasons for depopulation and youth unemployment and the opportunities to overcome them as well as the structure and opportunities for cooperation under the partnership.
