Description

The project addresses the lack of mobile social services provided at home for people with severe physical disabilities and home care patients. The project aims at overcoming the issue by providing movement rehabilitation, psychological counselling and assistive technology to such people. First, the expert team will select 30 people with disabilities as participants and make a social assessment of the needs and resources. Second, the project will be presented to the stakeholders. Third, individual movement rehabilitation will be provided to 27 people at home and at the centre; personal assistants will be trained; advice and help will be given to make the home environment accessible. Fourth, psychological counselling and family therapy will be provided to 20 people with disabilities. Finally, the experience will be shared with the stakeholders. The project will benefit the people with disabilities, their personal assistants, families, the state agencies and the public in general.

Summary of project results

The project aimed at providing medical and social services such as motor rehabilitation, mechanotherapy, psychological counselling and art activities to people with physical disabilities and bedridden patients at home, in a family environment, and complementary services at the Centre for Social Rehabilitation and Integration in Sofia City. The project activities enabled 37 people with work capability loss, 91% of them as a result of disability, to have access to medical and social services. 324 therapeutic procedures took place and psychological assistance was provided to the participants and their families. 27 assistants were trained to transfer in a safe manner the patient from the wheelchair to the bed and vice versa and improve the accessibility of the home environment for the users. Light for Life Foundation boosted the competence of their experts and expanded the circle of users of services. The devices for mechanotherapy purchased under the project will be used in the long run by people with disabilities.
