Description

The project addresses the need for more objective information available to the public to ensure awareness of human and civil rights. The project aims at raising the public awareness via a platform with interactive maps, debates, news, analyses and comments. First, an online survey will be carried out among the stakeholders via Economedia’s online module on 3 main topics, i.e. vulnerable groups, crime and law enforcement and election and voting. Second, 6 interactive data maps on the 3 topics will be created and uploaded online. Third, 3 expert debates on the 3 topics will be held online at www.capital.bg. Next, 3 discussions will be held in small groups of 26 politicians and experts. Finally, a permanent section on human and civil rights will be developed at www.capital.bg. The project will benefit young people, decision-makers and the public in general. The partner will provide the online survey platform, experienced experts, media channels and technical support.

Summary of project results

The lack of sufficiently objective information and debate in the public space is one of the obstacles for the full exercising of human and civil rights. The media that do not protect efficiently the public interest are the main reason why people have not been well aware of the rights they and other people have and have allowed to be abused, to become indifferent, alienated and intolerant to the others and most of all to the vulnerable groups. Thus, the project impact can be seen in greater knowledge and sensitivity about the rights we and other people have; thus the project contributed to an overall shift in the values and mindset of the community in general. A permanent section on human and citizen rights was created under the project and has been kept since then with 153 published articles, 239 716 unique visitors and 436 168 impressions; a survey was carried out to check the awareness about human and citizen rights, the election process, crime and law enforcement and the survey findings were analyzed; six interactive maps were published; three online debates with experts were held; a political discussion with 74 participants was held.
