Description

The project addresses the challenges faced by the 5 municipalities of Burgas, Pomorie, Sozopol, Sredets and Karnobat related to the implementation of the deinstitutionalization policy and the failure to recognise NGOs as partners in the process. The project aims at promoting NGO involvement by improving their competence to create an efficient local model of supportive volunteering. First, the project and its goals will be presented to the stakeholders. Second, 20 people will be selected and trained on democracy, children’s rights, deinstitutionalization, efficient NGO operation, networking and volunteering. Third, local mini projects will be implemented, supervised and approved. Finally, a Specialized Volunteering Centre will be set up in Bourgas. The project will benefit the related NGOs, volunteers, the children placed in local institutions and the community in general. The partner will help with its expertise in the training of volunteers and organization of local campaigns.

Summary of project results

The project addressed the challenges faced by the 5 municipalities of Burgas, Pomorie, Sozopol, Sredets and Karnobat related to the implementation of the deinstitutionalization policy and the failure to recognise NGOs as partners in the process. Therefore a specialized Centre for work with Volunteers was set up under the project in the city of Bourgas. The centre continues to provide services to NGOs and children’s service providers. The Centre has 48 members, including students, citizens, school students and NGO representatives (e.g. Association Soroptimist International Club Burgas). In addition, volunteer teams were set up with D. Polyanov - 1862 Community Centre in the town of Karnobat, Svetlina 1939 Community Centre in the town of Pomorie and Dialogue Non-profit in the town of Sredets, which continue to initiate and support important local social causes. The project covered more than 100 children from Family-type Care Centres and 250 children from the community. 30 members of local NGOs and 48 volunteers were trained. 4 mini projects and 3 local initiatives to support children and the elderly were approved.
