Description

The project addresses the weak and underperforming civil sector in the 5 border areas between Bulgaria and Turkey (citizens lacking knowledge how to voice their issues, NGOs not able to attract supporters for major causes). The project aims at developing networks/coalitions of NGOs and training them to involve citizens in local initiatives. First, several important for the public problems will be identified. Second, 25 representatives of NGOs and volunteers will attend a 2-day seminar on how to involve people in local initiatives. Second, a guide on involvement of people in local initiatives will be published. Third, an information campaign on civic involvement will be held for one month. Finally, the project results will be presented to the stakeholders. The project will benefit the NGOs, volunteers trained and the local communities.

Summary of project results

The project addressed the weak and underperforming civil sector in the 5 border areas between Bulgaria and Turkey (citizens lacking knowledge how to voice their issues, NGOs not able to attract supporters for major causes). Its implementation helped strengthen the civil sector in those 5 border areas and at present some of the citizens know how to voice their problems and interests and the local NGOs established successful mechanisms to formulate socially important causes and attract a broad range of supporters for their implementation. Project outcomes: - Increased skills and competence of 27 representatives of local NGOs to involve citizens in local initiatives; - New subjects addressed and increased capacity of local NGOs and volunteers; citizen involvement in the local community increased; - 30 participants from different social groups included in the discussion of socially relevant issues and formulation of socially relevant causes; - Information campaign held and 6 types of information materials disseminated; More than 5 000 citizens were informed about participation in local initiatives. The organization represents 20 NGOs and thus the project outcomes can be disseminated and multiplied in other places. Target groups: 34 NGO representatives; 18 young people and 25 volunteers. They were actively involved in all stages of the project and now have been enjoying the final results.
