Description

The project addresses the need to provide a secure and stable environment to children at risk. The project aims at supporting families (biological/adoptive/foster parents) to become a supportive environment for the children through counselling. First, social evaluations and plans will be prepared for 20 at risk/adoptive/foster families. Second, at least 20 families will receive individual counselling to strengthen the parents/child relationship. Third, at least 10 crisis interventions will be carried out for families where children’s life and health is at risk. Fourth, 2 thematic groups of 6-8 parents will discuss issues to do with children’s upbringing and education. Next, 15 volunteers will be trained. 10 home visits will be paid. Finally, the outcomes will be presented to the stakeholders at a conference. The project will benefit children at risk, their biological/adoptive/foster parents, volunteers, experts and the public.

Summary of project results

The project aimed at supporting children temporarily placed at a family-type residential centre (FTRC) and their parents. The project activities ensured integrated support to facilitate children’s transition from residential care to life in a family environment. 20 families were supported to acquire the knowledge and skills that would enable them to ensure a sustainable and supportive environment for the children. The team of professionals and volunteers raised their capacity to meet the needs of the families and children. The following activities were carried out under the project: 25 crisis interventions, 30 visits of 11 families, 10 meetings of two thematic groups of parents, 12 staff members of the Centre and 14 volunteers were trained. The project complemented the efforts of the people engaged in social work to support early childhood development and deinstitutionalization in a new systematic way by directing the work of the centre staff to the family as a whole. The successful model of work with parents and families developed over the years by Hope for the Little Ones Foundation was reinforced.
