Description

The project addresses the need to support disadvantaged children in the city of Plovdiv without any social life, family support and self-confidence. The project aims at building the children’s communication skills and helping their families and teachers support them. First, the project team will be trained to work with disadvantaged children. Second, 28 children aged 9-18 will have monthly classes with a psychologist, maths and Bulgarian language teacher to develop their communication skills, logical thinking and language command. Third, the children will be taught sound-painting and music to overcome communication barriers. Fourth, the parents and teachers will have a 2-day psychological training. Finally, the project outcomes will be presented to the local community at a concert. The project will benefit the disadvantaged children, their parents, teachers and the local community. The partner will organize the training of the children and contacts with the families and teachers.

Summary of project results

The project aimed at making up for social deficiencies, overcoming social isolation and boosting the social activities of 28 disadvantaged children aged 9-18 who use the services of the Centre for Social Service for Children and Families in the city of Plovdiv. The project helped the children improve their communication skills and develop skills for involvement in the community. Various shortcomings were addressed and made up for. The children were provoked to use various art methods to overcome stereotypes and feel more confident in a different environment. The good project practices were presented during the project events. The project website http://children-expression.eu/ has a Q&A forum that might be of interest for anyone working with disadvantaged children. The beneficiary organization and its partner boosted their capacity for work with children at risk and problems. The project partner, Fusion Way, organized the pedagogical activity, the children’s public activities and the contact with the children’s families and teachers.
