Summary of project results

The project addressed the need for more active involvement of the citizens of Zlatograd Municipality in the work of the local authorities. The main impact of the project was related to the feeling of the public that their voice can be heard and taken into consideration. The project aimed at increasing NGOs’ contribution and involvement in policy-making. Some of the activities (Nos 1, 2 and 3) influenced the role of citizens and NGOs for policy-setting, encouraging citizen involvement and decision-making. Some of the other project activities (No 4) contributed to more active involvement of the citizens and equal access to information and electronic services. Key representatives of the local legislative and executive power had the opportunity in practice to put forward proposals related to important issues for public discussion, present reasons for their proposals, ensure greater transparency of the local authority. The citizens in turn had the opportunity to express their opinion and proposals, got involved with unpopular measures looking for solutions and actively taking part, which is indicative of greater confidence built during the project. Three public TV programmes on key issues for Zlatograd Municipality were held; the Dialogue Day was held, 15 students had traineeship in the municipal administration and an Information Front Office was set up where the citizens had the opportunity to request and receive services of interest to them, most often with regard to the application under the EU Funds.
