The initiative concerns the development of best practices in relation to the support of outdoor play, through the collaboration and exchange of ideas with Western Norway University. It will promote active participation and experiential learning in early childhood education and explore how this can contribute to solving key contemporary challenges related to children''s development, learning and well-being in the aftermath of COVID lockdowns.
Summary of the results
The bilateral initiative between PLAYING and the Western Norway University of Applied Sciences took place in Bergen and Stord and aimed at enhancing skills in supporting children''s outdoor play and promoting pedagogical education. The initiative included a visit to the Espira Kunnskapsbarnehagen Salamonskogen Kindergarten and to the Siggjo and Fløyen mountains with Bendik Sierra. Additionally, there were presentations at the university and an exploration of potential collaborations with the institution. The project also featured an interview with local media, including television and newspapers, and the creation of a newsletter in Greek, English, and Norwegian. The initiative emphasised key elements such as active participation, experiential learning, movement, creativity, and experimentation through play, contributing to enriching educational practices and promoting a deeper understanding of the role outdoor play has in supporting children''s development.
