Description

he project dubbed Because we Take the National Council Seriously! Aims to deal away with the inadequate representation of culture and sport professionals in the National Council of the Republic of Slovenia. The project is a form of response to the current illegal appointments and non-compliance with the National Council Act, which undermines the democratic process and makes it impossible for the voices of culture and sport professionals to be heard and properly represented.

To address these challenges, we plan on entering into a strategic litigation at the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Slovenia and challenge the illegal appointment of the currently appointed National Councilor. We will also carry out advocacy and public awareness campaigns to underline the importance of compliance with the law and transparent electoral procedures. By advocating for consistent adherence to democratic principles, the project aims to set a precedent for future appointments as well as promote a fair and representative electoral system.

The main target group of the project are culture and sport professionals. By ensuring their legal representation in the National Council, they will be able to advocate for policies and initiatives that directly benefit the areas of culture and sport. The project is bears significance for the broader society, as it enables a more transparent and responsible democratic system in which public institutions respect the principles of the rule of law.

Summary of project results

The main purpose of the project Because we take the National Council seriously! is to address the inadequate representation of cultural and sports professionals in the National Council of the Republic of Slovenia. The project was created in response to the current challenges of illegal appointments and disrespect for the National Council Act, which undermines the democratic process and prevents the voices of cultural and sports professionals from being heard and adequately represented.

To address these challenges, the project entered into strategic litigation at the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Slovenia to challenge the unlawful appointment of the currently appointed State Councilor. By advocating for consistent respect for democratic principles, the project aimed to create a precedent for future appointments and promote a fair and representative electoral system.

The project provided civil society, cultural stakeholders and NGOs with important knowledge, examples and skills on how to address systemic issues. With the help and power of strategic litigation and the use of legal remedies, we aimed to establish a precedent, raise political culture and prevent further illegal appointments, therefore this project and its activities were an important step towards strengthening democratic processes.
