Description

GEC GP, located in Adriatic Region operates under NACE CODE C16.10. Sawmilling and planing of wood.

The primary activity of company relates to processing of wood for the needs of building roofs and other purposes. Some of company’s products are boards, beams, slats and elements for pellets, which are made of high-quality fir, spruce, pine and larch. In addition, company produces wooden furniture (wooden benches and tables, and wooden houses).

The Project:

The wood industry is a capital intensive industry, and requires constant investment into modernization and automation of the production, for the company to keep its competitive position on the market.

Very important machine used by GEC GP in the production process is a Format Saw. GEC GP already owns this machine, which it uses for sawing of wood on a daily basis. However, the one currently in use consumes large amounts of energy and does not achieve an acceptable utilization of the raw material, which results in a large amount of  wood waste, with negative effects on the environment and on the company''s expenses and profit. It is also relatively slow, thus the capacity of the company is lower than optimal, which is reflected in longer delivery terms, lower sales and - in opportunity loss.

This project is about investment into a new, superior Format Saw that will bring number of benefits to the company, including increased capacity, lower expenses and ability to produce some new products. It will ultimately be reflected in stronger competitiveness of the company, with significantly decreased costs, increased revenues and increased profit, and much greener production process.

Summary of project results

The project addressed challenges in the wood processing industry, including the high energy consumption and inefficiency of the existing Format Saw used by GEC GP. The outdated machine resulted in significant wood waste, increased production costs, and negative environmental impacts. Additionally, the company''s production capacity was suboptimal, leading to longer delivery times, reduced sales, and missed business opportunities.

The project involved investing in a new, advanced Format Saw to replace the inefficient machine. This included procuring and installing the new equipment, which was designed to improve raw material utilization, reduce energy consumption, and enhance production speed. The investment also enabled the company to expand its product range and modernize its production processes.

The project significantly improved GEC GP''s production efficiency, reducing waste and energy costs, which led to a greener and more cost-effective operation. The increased capacity allowed the company to meet customer demand more promptly, leading to higher sales and profitability. The enhanced production process benefited both the company and its customers by providing higher-quality products while reducing the environmental impact.
