Description

The project is needed because the global mental health crisis shows the need for immediate action. The state of child and adolescent mental health is alarming and the system is unable to respond effectively to the needs of children and adolescents and their families within its current organisation and resources. The perceived gaps that the project aims to bridge are the disconnection between the preventive and curative support systems, the lack of positive parenting programmes and the strong stigma attached to mental health and the mental health conversation.

CURRENT OPPORTUNITY: With the upcoming European Mental Health Week, the draft law on psychotherapy and the end of the school year, when educational institutions decide on their annual work plan and programme for parents.

SOLVING THE CHALLENGE: Through a rapid response - an influencer event, media publications, awareness-raising for parents and the general public, a programme for parents and advocacy activities for decision-makers - we will contribute to a rapid and active response to the current opportunity.

TARGET GROUPS: PRIMARY: parents, general public and decision makers. SECONDARY: children

IMPLEMENTER: UNICEF Slovenia is a very strong organisation in the field of child rights advocacy and with international success stories. The project will raise awareness among parents and the general public, as well as children and adolescents, about the importance of mental health care and the recognition of mental distress. And, with the support of the public and the media, we will encourage decision-makers to commit to system change that will address children and adolescents'' mental health more effectively.
