Description
The problem addressed by the project is facilitating the integration of Ukrainian refugee students into the Romanian education
system and increasing the capacity of teaching staff to work with this disadvantaged social category. The situation of Ukrainian
refugees represents a major challenge for society at the moment, both at the European and national level. After providing a first
support aimed at covering basic needs and improving the psychological state, followed by a second type of support aimed at
ensuring access to medical, educational, legal services, etc., a new approach is currently needed. Since the armed conflict is
ongoing, it is absolutely necessary that the goal of the intervention move to the area of quality of integrated services specific to
refugees, support in integration and adaptation, especially for Ukrainian students, in the educational environment. In order for this
to happen, a multidimensional approach is needed that targets Ukrainian students, Romanian students, as well as teaching staff
from the units where they study.
The World Vision Romania Foundation, together with the Romanian Literacy Association, proposes the development of a program of
complementary activities, structured as follows:
- The training of 45 teachers who work with Ukrainian students, through an accredited training program
- Actions to facilitate the integration of 75 Ukrainian refugee students, through psychological counseling and personal development
sessions
- Implementation of an information and awareness campaign on the topic of non-discrimination and social inclusion, regarding the
rights of refugee students from Ukraine enrolled in educational institutions in Romania
- Integrated orientation actions, professional counseling and specific information for refugee adults
- Occupational match-making and the organization of a job fair
- Parental counseling sessions
- Socialization activities and the creation of support groups
Summary of project results
The project aimed to provide complex support to Ukrainian refugees in 3 big Romanian cities - Bucuresti, Cluj and Iasi, and empower them to address their problems, as well as to train teachers who work in schools frequented also by Ukrainian children. 142 Ukrainian refugee children and 71 Ukrainian refugee adults were registered in the 3 centers for project activities and services.
Parents participated in activities of psychological and legal counseling, professional counseling and labor mediation, parental education, and children participated in recreational activities - visits and excursions, non-formal education and psychological counseling. Also for adults, career counselling activities were organized for 56 people and 3 job fairs. An analysis of the training needs of teachers who teach in classes where Ukrainian students also study was carried out and 64 students and 59 teachers responded to the analysis, following the analysis a training course for teachers was organized. A training for representatives of other NGOs working with Ukrainian refugees, a course for teachers who have or have had Ukrainian pupils and an information campaign on the rights of Ukrainian pupils in Romanian schools were organized. All this information was communicated every month on social media, including press release and participation in broadcasts - TVR
