Description

In this project, we are implementing the environmental workshops School of the Young Urban Gardener for young people from the Biskupice municipality. We are teaching them gardening, garden design, plant cooking and building insect hotels. The 30 young people taking part in the workshops will plan and carry out planting in a concrete courtyard by the community centre. As a result of the project, Biskupice will gain a new, youth-friendly, green place for meetings and creative activities where gardening workshops will be held. During the School of the Young Urban Gardener workshops, the youngsters will learn innovative gardening techniques, such as designing vertical gardens and potted gardens. In addition, they learn how to grow edible plants and how to make the urban garden a pet- and insect-friendly place. As part of the project, we organise inspiring trips to interesting places from ecological point of view (such as a botanical garden, forest, show farms or urban gardens), as well as an integration-survival camp. We hold meetings and consultations in the emerging urban garden. We are implementing workshops in time-lapse photography. At least 15 time-lapse movies will be created by young people showing the work carried out in the garden. In addition, we will build at least 15 nesting boxes for birds.

Summary of project results

In the project, 30 young people were supposed to acquire knowledge in the field of ecology, urban gardening and building urban gardens. They used the acquired knowledge when planning plantings in the concrete yard next to the community center. As a result, Biskupice will gain a new, youth-friendly, green place for meetings, creative activities and gardening workshops. In the project, we will also learn about innovative gardening techniques - vertical gardens and potted gardens. Additionally, in the project it is planned to learn how to grow edible plants in the urban jungle and how to make the place friendly to animals and insects. The project contribute to solving the following problems: 1. Low civic activity of the district''s inhabitants in three categories: economic, social and political 2. Lack of involvement in activities for others 3. Low social and civic competences of the district''s inhabitants 4. Little knowledge about ecology and the environment and no need to expand it on your own.

In the project, 37 young people acquired knowledge in the field of ecology, urban gardening and building urban gardens. The acquired knowledge was used when planning plantings in the concrete yard adjacent to the community center. As a result, Biskupice gained a new, youth-friendly, green place for meetings, creative activities and gardening workshops. During the project, we also learned various gardening techniques and learned about recycling activities. Additionally, in the project we learned how to grow edible plants in the urban jungle and how to make the place friendly to animals and insects. In the project we implemented: - 14 stationary workshops on gardening, garden design, plant cuisine, building insect houses, etc. - 8 away meetings of the School of Urban Gardeners - inspiring outings and trips to ecologically interesting places - e.g. botanical garden, forest, demonstration farms, urban gardens, etc. 2 trips were two-day; - 2 spatial planning meetings, - 2 public consultation meetings, - 2 consultation meetings with reports - 16 working meetings in the garden, - 2nd Christmas wafer meeting of people working in the garden - 2 time-lapse photography workshops, - 1 public consultation plan and a model of the garden for consultation. - 2 information and organizational meetings - 1 event promoting the project and its effects - ceremonial opening of the garden - one-week survival trip for 15 people. - 2 workshops on the assembly of nesting boxes, as a result we assembled 13 bird feeders and 22 nesting boxes, - 15 time-lapse films created by young people showing our activities - growing plants, building gardens, etc.

As a result of project activities: - We have created a green garden in Biskupice, which we still take care of. The garden hosts tea parties, art and stilt walking workshops. Sometimes young people come to sit in the garden, which makes us happy because it is such an important place that, thanks to our own work, has been accepted by the young people from Zabrze Biskupice. Additionally, the creation of the garden influenced the perception of our activities in the City - we are a model of ecological activities for other institutions. - Civic activity increased for 37 people who actively participated in the project (submitted declarations of participation) and engaged in activities for others - The social and civic competences of 30 young people increased - 30 people acquired knowledge in the field of ecology, urban gardening, spatial planning, and public consultations. - 30 young people''s sense of agency increased. - we promoted the project to 28 recipients of videos on YT and 1209 followers of the project website - Fanpage on FB.
