Description

In the recent years, the phenomenon of live cinema has been proclaimed by a number of European curators and theoreticians as a distinctive feature of contemporary culture which is able to reflect the media, social and technological development of European culture. The cultural platform and festival „PAF“ has been concerned with the issues of live audio-visual performance in the tradition of cinema, animation and visual arts for 13 years. The project focuses on mediating manifestations of live cinema that exist in the tradition of cinema, contemporary art and music. As a feature of contemporary culture, live cinema is an important testimony of technological and social changes in the perception of contemporary art through different ways of presentation and different interfaces. The outcomes of the project „Festivals of Live Cinema“lie in two extensive film exhibitions in Norway and the Czech Republic, reflecting phenomenon of live cinema based on long-term collaboration of teams in both countries. Lectures and workshops intended for professionals and general public will be organized. They will reflect this phenomenon in the historical tradition. Research on the present state of audio-visual performance art in Norway and the Czech Republic will be carried out within the scope of the project. Art students at universities in Norway and the Czech Republic will also be consulted and participate in discussion all along the project. The Donor partner is the Screen City Festival. The project develops the possibilities of mutual cooperation and the sharing of a specific know-how in a complex system and in the production of a unique programme for Czech and Norwegian cities, while an international team of curators will be involved together with Norwegian and Czech artists. Both partners will benefit from mutual exchange of their experience, dialogue and continuing collaboration during the project period as well as after the end of the project.

Summary of project results

The project "„Festivals of Live Cinema“" was aimed at interconnection various venues where contemporary manifestations of cinema and visual arts were presented through installations and performances in public space. It was mainly based on two events: the 14th year of the Festival of Film Animation (PAF) that took place in Olomouc in December 2015 (programme consisted of more than 70 blocks with 3 890 viewers in total) and Screen Festival City Stavanger in Norway (17 program blocks) in October 2015. PAF is the only festival in the Czech Republic that deals with a wider concept of the animation phenomena in the context of cinematography and visual arts. The Screen Festival City is focused on moving images presented in public spaces, urban facades, in shop windows and in other busy places of Stavanger. Lectures, seminars and workshops intended for professionals and general public were also part of the project. In collaboration with Palacký University PAF organized a chain of lectures and discussions with acompanying programme of exhibition openings and special thematic and commented screening at the ZOO. A number of significant theoreticians, curators and experts as well as important and fine audio visual artists from the Czech Republic, Norway and other countries have participated in the project. The programme was intended for the wider public, regardless of demographic, ethnic and social differences. Thanks to intensive cooperation significant expansion of cultural awareness of audiovisual events occured in both countries. The project has clearly demonstrated the necessity of linking remote destinations, which can be just as culturally close thanks to mutual cooperation.

Summary of bilateral results

The project had 1 Norwegian partner from donor state - "Screen City Festival Stavanger". The cooperation with the Norwegian festival and cultural platform Screen City has begun in 2013, when an exchange of film screening programme took place. Both institutions were actively involved in the preparation and implementation of the project from the very beginning. They enriched the project with their excellent knowledge of contemporary Norwegian (Screen City) and Czech (PAF) culture and art, their artists network and contacts with key cultural institutions. Mutual sharing of know-how that developed in an intense dialogue, was also of great benefit. Daniela Arriado as a project partner leader took also rightful place in the international jury in competion section "Other Visions". On the basis of previous cooperation and this project, future similar activities with partner will take place.
