Description

The company ELEKTRO RECYCLING, s. r. o. (“ER”) currently presents itself as a complex operator of waste produced from discarded electrical equipment in the Slovak Republic. It covers a whole range of waste recovery and is the holder of an authorisation for the treatment of waste electrical and electronic equipment for all the categories listed in Annex 6 to Act No. 79/2015 Coll. on Waste. The ER´s waste management objectives are based primarily on achieving a high rate of recycling and re-use. In order to achieve the top recovery and recycling standards, it is necessary to use state-of-the-art and innovative technology. One of the ways of attaining these objectives is to obtain an output raw material (not waste) at the end of the entire waste recovery process, in which sorting technologies play a significant role. Those currently available on the market are designed so as to minimise impacts on each environmental sphere. The project implementation is directly linked to the market requirement within the entire territory of the Slovak Republic, as well as the requirements resulting from the legislation of the Slovak Republic and of the European Union. The European Waste Directive 2008/98/EC and related Article 2(5) of Act No. 79/2015 Coll. on Waste set out the conditions for the implementation of measures under which the end-of-waste status may occur in the recycling process and where waste may become a raw material. With the purchase of technological equipment for optical metal sorting it would be possible to reach the end-of-waste status in the company’s operation pursuant to Commission Regulation (EU) No. 715/2013 and Council Regulation (EU) No. 333/2011, thus increasing the company’s competitiveness also in areas other than electrical waste treatment.

Summary of project results

- the project was implemented without problems. It can be considered as a model project

- purchase technological equipment for sorting of output metal fractions originating from the existing process of waste electrical and electronic equipment treatment, which differ mainly in colour and contain impurities as a third component that must be separated

- The project implementation contributed to the establishment of deeper and broader bilateral relationships both from the point of view of seeking a suitable technology supplier (Norway)

- direct environmental impact – waste recycling and recovery;
- support of the industrial development of the Banská Bystrica region;

- support of innovative technologies in the region;
- additional financial benefits for the Banská Bystrica region (payment of local taxes and fees)
through the company’s development;
- cooperation with local entrepreneurs (supplier-customer relationships) and the public sector;
- enhanced sustainable development through waste recovery;
- promoting an environmentally friendly environment among the population of the region;
