Description

The objectives of the project consist in improving the conditions of education and health and combating any form of discrimination for 120 people from the disadvantaged urban district Sătmărel, a district in the municipality of Satu Mare. The Roma population of the targeted community accounts for 30.39% of the general population. The community faces serious socio-economic problems like poor housing conditions, lack of stable sources of income, lack of jobs, low level of adult education, high school dropout rates, etc., all these leading to marginalization and social exclusion.

The specific objectives are the following:

• Supporting 40 school children from the disadvantaged Sătmărel community in order to prevent school dropout and create a healthy life style.

• Capacity building for 50 families in order to support their children''s social inclusion and school success.

The target group of the project consists of 120 people of Roma ethnicity: 70 children (6-16 years) and 50 parents.

The main activities of the project include: remedial and literacy activities for 20 children, non-formal education activities (permaculture) for 20 children, other than those previously mentioned, weekly workshops for parents (including topics of specific interest to Roma women -  access to the labour market etc.), and health and care education workshops for 20 adults and 20 children.
