Description

Founded in 2019, SciTech Factory Ltd is dedicated to the research and development of cutting-edge products and services in the field of information technology. One of their groundbreaking projects centers around the creation and market implementation of an innovative electric motor designed for Electrically Power Assisted Cycles (EPAC Bicycles). These specialized bicycles provide an added boost to the rider''s motion, such as increased speed and power, only when pedaling. Collaborating with BA Ltd., SciTech Factory Ltd (STF) aims to introduce the EPAC Bicycle Kit, a revolutionary green product set to transform the market.

The EPAC Bicycle Kit represents an eco-friendly innovation in the realm of electric bicycles. This transformative kit is a departure from existing solutions and offers end consumers the opportunity to easily retrofit their standard bicycles with disk brakes, converting them into electrically supported bicycles. The introduction of this innovative product carries numerous environmental benefits. It is expected to yield a substantial reduction of approximately 18,000 tons in CO2 emissions by the end of 2023, showcasing its potential to significantly contribute to a greener future. Additionally, the project anticipates recycling around 6 tons of metal per year and reducing energy consumption by an impressive 30 megawatts. SciTech Factory Ltd and BA Ltd. are poised to make a remarkable impact with their environmentally conscious EPAC Bicycle Kit, offering consumers a sustainable and forward-thinking transportation solution

Summary of project results

The following issues have been addressed by the project:

  • Market Need for Innovative Technology: The project targeted the lack of innovative green technologies in the EPAC bicycle market. Specifically, there were no electric motors utilizing axial flux technology, which offers superior energy efficiency and reduced power losses.

  • Environmental Concerns: Addressed environmental challenges by aiming to reduce CO2 emissions and promote sustainable transportation alternatives

  • Technological and Resource Challenges: Managed risks related to global supply shortages (e.g., chips, metals) and introduced measures to mitigate production delays and redesign needs.

  • Prototype Development: Finalized the prototype of an innovative electric motor kit for EPAC bicycles, including its components like motors, control boards, battery packs, and mobile applications.

  • Procurement of Equipment:

    • Purchased specialized machinery for in-house production (e.g., fiber lasers, milling machines, CNC routers).
    • Set up a production line to manufacture the motors.
  • Collaborative Design:

    • Optimizing the motor''s design through 3D simulations and address technical constraints.
    • Enhanced the user interface and branding of the product.
  • Green Innovation:

    • Developed a product adhering to EU environmental standards (DIN EN 15194:2017).
    • Projected environmental benefits, including 18,000 tons of CO2 reduction and recycling 6 tons of metal annually.
  • Job Creation: Committed to creating at least five new jobs during the project''s implementation.

  • Market Entry Strategy:

    • Designed the EPAC kit to be compatible with international regulations.
    • Focused on a growing market with high demand for green mobility solutions.

This project was dedicated to the development and establishment of a manufacturing line for innovative green technology - the electric motor for Electrically Power Assisted Cycles (EPAC Bicycles). By definition, these are bicycles, which can enhance the motion (e.g. speed, power) of a pair bike-rider with the help of an auxiliary motor only in case when the biker is pedaling. In the framework of this project, SciTech Factory Ltd. (STF) and its partner BA Ltd. have developed an eco-friendly innovative electric motor for a new green product – EPAC Bicycle Kit . The customers of the company will be able to easily mount the kit on any regular bicycle with disk brakes and transform it into an electrically supported bicycle.
