Description
The project consists of the implementation of activities of civic implication and education in 2 communities from Dolj county with a high marginalization rate and with insufficiently served areas where there was a lack of civic spirit among young people, a lack of practical approach to teaching civic education and misinformation online. Training courses for teachers on human rights and civic activism in the school will be provided with the help of the Icelandic partner the Human Rights Council of Iceland. Subsequently, information and awareness campaigns regarding civic activism and dissemination of information acquired during the course will be carried out to other teachers from the 3 high schools. Also, a study visit to Iceland will be organized to facilitate the exchange of best practices between the Icelandic and Romanian partners and a campagne and workshops will be held on civic involvement of young people in order to increase their knowledge of human rights and civic activism among children of the 3 high schools selected. A campaign on media literacy and fake news will be organized in schools to teach children how to filter fake news from social networks and other sources. Simulated NGOs will be set up within the 3 high schools and through them the students will be familiarized with the tools and context through which the civic initiatives can be carried out and as an application, initiatives of this kind will be carried out in the community by the students. Last but not least, there will be an organizational development activity that will consist of a training for the members of the association on volunteer management, fundraising and strategic planning and then realizing a strategy of developpement of the NGO. The added value of the partnership is the acquisition of good practices and expertise from the Icelandic partner that can be replicated by the Romanian partner.
Summary of project results
The project consisted of the implementation of activities of civic implication and education in 2 communities from Dolj county with a high marginalization rate and with insufficiently served areas where there was a lack of civic spirit among young people, a lack of practical approach to teaching civic education and misinformation online.
3 partnerships were established with schools, 2 with local authorities, and 1 with a local association. 17 people ( representatives from the targeted educational institutions and members of the Association participated at the training course on "Human Rights and Civic Participation in Schools". Two information campaigns were conducted, distributing leaflets, and three seminars were organized, reaching 72 teachers and informing 504 people. Over 30 informal workshops were held for students in the targeted schools. 7 representatives from the Local Council, the three schools, and the association joined a study visit to Icelandic partners, followed by four seminars to share knowledge and best practices from Iceland,. A media literacy and fake news awareness campaign was implemented, 28 workshops organized, involving more than 300 students. 5 specialized seminars were held where students learned about the country’s political system, voting, and leadership roles. They also explored ways to contribute to society through volunteerism and involving in civil society organization.. Students from Băilești and Segarcea high schools visited their local City Hall and City Council, attending a council meeting to understand how local governance works. 3 civic initiatives were launched, promoting environmental responsibility and a healthy lifestyle. As part of organizational development, 11 members and volunteers of the Association completed a thematic course, and the organization prepared its development strategy and annual report. T
The implemented actions increased civic engagement and human rights awareness among students, teachers, and local leaders. More than 800 people including students, teachers, and local representatives, were informed about civic participation and media literacy through workshops, seminars, and campaigns.
