Project facts

Project promoter:
Octavic PTS SRL(RO)
Project Number:
RO-INNOVATION-0050
Status:
Completed
Final project cost:
€339,500

Description

The objective of the project proposed by Octavis PTS, is to build a real time smart production scheduling for the Manufacturing Operation Management System which currently comprises 3 layers: Data collection from machines and operators, visual management elements, layer of data insights and KPIs. With this project, the company will be able to increase its competitiveness by developing an improved planning module.
Octavic PTS is using the knowledge gained from research and practical experience with the aim to produce additional knowledge, that will directly help them to raise the level of technology readiness of the RT SPS module. The development of the module involves considering various risk aspects into planning and the development of the planning algorithm so it can adjust the planning in real time even when it needs to consider several risk elements. Key activities include:

  • Research activities.
  • Project management.
  • Financial audit by external auditor.
  • Project publicity to promote the project.

The major result will be to promote value creation in the business sector by offering an innovative solution to companies which implement manufacturing activities in various industries, at national and international level. The solution should also strengthen the company’s capacity to perform research, development, and innovative activities.
The developed solution will be commercialised, and the company will have the right to sell the entire system. The project is also estimated to generate 3 new jobs by 2023.

Summary of project results

The project aimed to increase the Promoter''s competitiveness reflected in operational profit and turnover increase, by developinga real time smart production scheduling for the Manufacturing Operation Management System which comprised 3 layers at the project start (date collection from machines and operators, visual management elements and layer of data insights and KPIs).

The Promoter has invested in further experimental development of the planning module for manufacturing operations management system in order to implement the solution of  incorporating the risk management within production scheduling. The research effort was meant to bring the planning module from TRL 5 to TRL 8 by:
- considering various risk aspects into planning (probability of equipment failure, possible delays on other equipment, delays in material supply etc)
- implementing a weighing algorithm for dynamically adjust the planning based on the importance of various risk factors
- validating and testing the research results in industrial environments.

The project was implemented in several stages as per below:

1. Research activities

1.1 Testing and improving capabilities of the solution to deal with particularities such as molds that needs to be shared between different injection molding machines

1.2 Risk incorporation validation

1.3 Algorithm for balancing between probability of failure and other risk

1.4 Validation with large test cases from industrial environment

1.5 Prepare the solution for deployment in Industrial environment

1.6 Alarm module for planning activities

1.7 Trials at partner

2. Project publicity

3. Dissemination at scientific conferences and articles

At the end of the project, the Promoter has developed an improved planning module which is defined as risk based real time smart production scheduling (RB RT-SPS).

The Promoter''s estimation for the annual growth until the end of 2024 is an increase of profit by 40%. Three additional persons have been employed as a result of project implementation. In addition, the project achieved a significant milestone with the publication of an article in an open-source journal.
