Description

In this project we want to increase the awareness of the inhabitants of the City of Lublin about domestic violence and develop children and young people’s empathy towards the needs of people at risk of social exclusion. We will test new methods of working with children and youth in the face of the new post-pandemic reality, with regard to returning to school after a period of isolation and the challenges of online education. We will conduct workshops on the following topics: behaviour training – support in coping with violence, social competence training, personal development training – being proactive. We will develop an Individual Support Plan for each child, which will contain information about their needs, interests, preferences and problems. We also want to develop professional competences of people working with children. As part of the project, in cooperation with the foreign partner, we will conduct two webinars. The first one will be dedicated to the transfer of best practices in the field of activities undertaken for socially excluded young people. In the second we will discuss inclusive education in Norway, including the possibilities for adapting schools to new conditions taking into account the students’ needs. We will carry out a social media campaign aimed at activating children and young people and raising awareness of the whole society about domestic violence and the situation of people at risk of social exclusion. The project’s partner will be Remedica Norway As from Norway, responsible for providing experts to co-host the webinars and elaborate a report.

Summary of project results

The project aimed to prevent violence, including increasing awareness. on the problem of domestic violence (R) and increasing the level of empathy among children and youth (D and M) by introducing high-quality educational activities. and development. Activities carried out as part of the project were aimed at testing new forms of support for D and M in the context of the new post-pandemic reality - returning to schools after a period of isolation and remote learning. The project supported a total of 90 people: high school students and professionals: educators, psychologists, cooperation with D and M, pers. related to anti-exclusion institutions. social and those fighting violence in R.

As part of the project, free workshops were held to strengthen competences. soft youth and additionally developed individually selected support paths - Individual. Action Plans (IPD). Some of the program participants could benefit from additional psychological support. in the form of 3 individual meetings with a psychologist-psychotherapist. Experts working with students practiced with young people, among others: ability to cope with situations difficult, developing the ability to make independent decisions, developing assertive attitudes. Competence and social skills training. were aimed at modeling the behavior of young people in various social situations. Young people learned to distinguish emotions and deal with them, respond appropriately to mental/physical violence, and appropriately relieve emotional tension. The Foundation has prepared a report entitled: "The impact of the pandemic on the functioning of young people and families" discussing the consequences brought by the pandemic, especially in the aspect of mental functioning of R, including D and M. The Foundation has also prepared a Manual "New possibilities of psychological support for children and young people in educational institutions" presenting research using the " desk research” on domestic violence affecting children and young people and the level of empathy of young residents of the city of Lublin in terms of social inequalities, problems and needs of particularly sensitive groups. The manual also contains good Norwegian practices that can be transferred locally. 50 educational establishments and other institutions will receive the manual by e-mail. The project partner developed a publication entitled "Good practices in the field of activities undertaken for socially excluded youth", which recommends solutions practiced and proven effective in Norway. When it comes to preventing social exclusion in Norway, two issues are highlighted. Firstly, good prevention consisting of observing and being close to children and adolescents. Being close is about local anchoring as well as being visible in the environment. Moreover, an important issue is that involving children and young people in various activities also facilitates work that shapes attitudes. Closeness, focus on expertise and the use of help from various agencies are dimensions that cover three basics: organization, cooperation and prevention.

In the information campaign, the project also touched on the sensitive topic of domestic violence. This is not only a legal, moral, psychological and social problem. In public consciousness, violence increasingly appears as an act of barbarism that requires quick action. Counteracting domestic violence cannot only be local. It must also be an important issue in the state''s social policy.

As part of the project, a competition for young people was held for a slogan and graphics for the social media campaign "Young people have a voice!" The youth campaign slogan "DON''T BE, TOXIC HAVE ESSE" was chosen.
