Description

Project´s goal is the inclusion of socially disadvantaged Roma children into the mainstream of education through establishing of the school assistant function in two co-operating elementary schools. Project is reacting to the problem of socially disadvantaged pupils, who often don´t finish the elementary education or are transferred to so called „practical elementary school“. The school assistant will support these pupils during the school lessons and through home tutoring. The assistant communicates with the children´s parents and thus creates a bridge between the school and the family.

Summary of project results

This project’s mission was attempting to resolve the exclusion of socially and culturally disadvantaged families in the Jaroměř – pevnost Josefov region. It helped those families, both children and parents realize through its activities how important self-education in their life is. It was focused on supporting inclusive education in ZŠ Jaroměř – Josefov. The goal of the project was to integrate two assistants who worked with more than 70 socially disadvantaged Romany pupils during the standard education of the elementary school. This goal was achieved by employing of two school assistants, Renata Goroľová and Michaela Groulíková, on a full time job in ZŠ Jaroměř – Josefov. During their time there, they provided academic support to 102 pupils from socially, culturally and economically disadvantaged families in the period of 12 months. The project helped the children develop their learning abilities, knowledge, results and language skills, evolve and support their self-education, independence, self-esteem and social skills. The project also improved the professional knowledge of the two teacher’s assistants and the teachers themselves. By establishing free time activities, tutoring and providing individual consultations with children and parents in their domestic environment, which is the implementation elements of fieldwork in the family, we managed to improve their home preparation for school. Through the achievements above we enhance school success of high number of pupils (they started to visit school frequently, their school results were improved and also some of them successfully passed their resit so they could properly continue with the school). We created free time activities that lasted at least two hours per day for more than 60 pupils who wanted to cooperate and this lasted for one year. And we improved opinion of teachers on importance of help from school assistants.
