The main objective of the project is to develop and improve the process of rehabilitation of socially excluded and from social exclusion endangered vulnerable families in the Karlovy Vary region by introducing and developing Social activation services for families with children. The task of helping families is to prevent, mitigate or eliminate the causes of child endangerment and provide parents and child assistance and support the preservation of the family as a whole, especially by strengthening the cohesion of family relationships and mutual help among family members. The project is about helping socially disadvantaged Roma families or families where one parent is in prison, with children under 18 years of age. An integral part of the project is the development of cooperation between state authorities, experts on social and legal protection of children and NGOs in the Karlovy Vary region, which can contribute significantly to the successful remediation of the family. The project will also contribute to strengthening the capacity of the organization by developing of activities focused on the long-term financial sustainability of the organization.

Summary of project results

The realization of the project enabled us to begin with our newly registered social service named “Socially activation services for families with children”. Within the framework of project realization we were cooperating with social workers from several elementary schools in the Karlovy Vary Region. Seven service workers attended 50 lessons of educational course named „Cooperation with a family in difficult life situations“. From April 2015 to March 2016 we were cooperating with 14 underprivileged, mostly Romany, families which means individual cooperation with 39 individual members. The result is markedly positive – 12 of 14 families (i.e. 86%) we cooperate with were successfully integrated. We mostly focused on improving way of children’s raising, regular school attendance and improvement of school result especially in elementary schools, responsible housekeeping and financial management, overcoming social benefits addiction, helping dealing with dept-traps and supporting comeback to local labour market, mediating another social services and support according to consumers needs. Providing “Socially activation services for families with children” social service is consistent with medium-term plan of social services development of the Karlovy Vary Region in 2014 – 2017 and subsequently in 2018-2023. Complex service offer has been made thanks to cooperation with state and non-profit sector in terms of connecting the new service with already existing organization services. This alliance will help to solve critical life situations, mostly in socially underprivileged Romany families, and to develop parental competence in families with children and youngsters therefore to prevent taking children away to custody.
