Description
Deficits in media literacy and the lack of skills to recognize and counter disinformation became visible and particularly significant in the assessment and reaction of parts of the population in relation to the war in Ukraine. The aim of the project is to contribute to media literacy and civic education in the regions of Vratsa, Montana and Vidin by developing educational and informational tools and materials, holding training and informational events. To achieve the goal of the project, we plan to develop informational and educational tools and materials - 2 case studies, 1 online simulation, at least 2 informational materials, 2 presentations, a "Media Literacy Handbook" and a Brochure with educational tools for media literacy (European and Bulgarian); conducting 1 training and 6 informational meetings. The total number of participants in the planned events/initiatives is 145. The expected end result is an increase in media literacy and building skills for recognizing and countering disinformation. Direct users of the project are civil organizations and public institutions (at national and local level). End users of the project are Roma and people in poverty.
Summary of project results
The project addresses the issue of misinformation, media literacy, and the recognition and counteraction of fake news in some of the most disadvantaged regions in Bulgaria - the Vratsa, Montana, and Vidin regions. Representatives of local administration and participants of Roma origin took part in the activities.
A Media Literacy Handbook and a Brochure with educational tools for media literacy from Bulgarian and European practices were developed. One media literacy training and six informational events were conducted – one in Vratsa, Montana, Vidin, Hayredin, Oryahovo, and Roman each. As part of additional communication activities for the project, an informational video on the organization''s results and activities was produced.
The primary beneficiaries of this project are representatives of local administration, the Roma community, and disadvantaged segments of the population at risk of poverty, who are particularly vulnerable regarding information and dealing with fake news. The team of the Association will continue working and providing accurate information to the ordinary people in every locality in Northwest Bulgaria by publishing additional information on the association''s website and social media. All materials developed through the project have been uploaded to the website, and trained participants will continue to use and disseminate their skills.
