Project objective is to prepare the teams of teachers at the three pilot schools for the implementation of restorative justice practices, to prepare trainers who are ready to work with schools in the educational landscape, to expand the network of schools, starting with the training of implementation teams for the next three schools, and to develop all of the necessary materials for the above.
The project activities will result in a teacher training programme developed and teams of teachers from three pilot schools trained, including the preparation of the necessary support materials and an e-training module as well as a training programme for trainers developed and at least 10 trainers trained, and a handbook for trainers will be completed. Additionally, three new school implementation teams are carried in order to more broadly support the spread of restorative justice practices in Estonian schools. Two (2) outreach events are carried out for Estonian schools, in order to introduce the experiences of implementing restorative justice in schools, the results of impact assessment and project results to the wider community plus 1 online information seminar for representatives from local governments is held.
Summary of project results
Project objective was to prepare the teams of teachers at the three pilot schools for the implementation of restorative justice practices, to prepare trainers who are ready to work with schools in the educational landscape, to expand the network of schools, starting with the training of implementation teams for the next three schools, and to develop all of the necessary materials for the above.
The project resulted in a teacher training programme developed and teams of teachers from three pilot schools Neeme and Haljala primary schools as well as Järva-Jaani secondary school) trained, with necessary support materials and an e-training module with 4 chapters - a) basics of restorative justice, b) model of a Caring School, c) coping with inappropriate behaviour and d) influencing a teenager.
A training programme for trainers developed and 13 trainers trained, and a handbook for trainers will be completed. Additionally, different outreach activities were carried out of restorative justice (Facebook, Teachers'' Magazine, Teachers'' Fair etc.) as well as over 141 specialists - teachers, social pedagogues, psychologists, school administration - were trained in Tartu, Võru, Haljala, Neeme and Järva-Jaani.
In addition to 3 pilot schools 3 additional schools have joined the network of Caring School (Neeme school, Haljala school, Järva-Jaani secondary school, Tartu Hansa Kool school, Little Werrone school, Pärnu-Jaagupi school). So, altogether 6 schools implement the Caring School model with relevant guidance materials available for use. Schools have signed partnership agreements with the Foundation Development Centre for the Unique School and they are offered supervision and additional trainings. Special restorative methods'' implementation teams have been compiled in each school and for reflection of practices used, learning groups have been activated.
