Description

The project is focused on working with preschool children from disadvantaged backgrounds. We want to facilitate their entry into the first grade of primary school and prevent any unsuccessful beginnings in school, which could endanger their future education. The project provides children and their parents a positive learning experience and help remove barriers and prejudices on the part of parents, teachers and classmates as well. We want to avoid unnecessary transfer of children to special schools. We want to teach children and their parents responsibility in preparation for school and highlight the importance of education for future life.

Summary of project results

The main objective of the project focused on working with children from socioculturally disadvantaged environment and their parents. The aim of the project was to facilitate enter into the first grade of primary school of these children and their families, to prevent potential failures connected with education and thus affect the quality of life of these children and their families. Implementation of the project in the form of pre-school preparation and family club had a number of important functions for the target group (safe environment for the child, a chance to "compensate handicaps" before entering mainstream primary school, the chance to change behavior patterns, the chance to reduce prejudices and barriers on all sides, the chance to experience success, etc.). Our aim was to support psychomotor development of these children, as well as respect to the exemptions for which children from disadvantaged backgrounds occur. Content of the educational work was created by the Framework Education Programme for Pre-school Education and its implementation was given to the methodology developed especially for our “Pre-school programme” with clear objectives and themes of education, where each day has its own structure (plan). Supportive activities in the form of leisure time and adventure activities opened the door to experience and to gain new experiences. Implementation of the project succeeded to provide the experience and to show the importance of pre-school education and thus give a chance to change the stereotypes of the way of life of individuals and communities in excluded localities in Chrudim district. Education has become an important value for individuals involved in the project, although the beginnings were not always easy.
