Description

According to the 1rst review of the River Basin Management Plan of North Peloponnes, the underground water system of Larissos river is bad. Human and agricultural use result in brackish underground water. Moreover, the underground water system has also been characterized as a vulnerable zone due to nitrate pollution.  The project combines the measures provided in the River Basin Management Plan (EL02) with the National Strategy for Climate Change Adaptation. The project  will: a) monitor the effects of climate change and overexploitation in the pilot area of the underground water system of  Larissa river by:  creating a climate model for the pilot area, undertaking hydrogeological research for the precise delimitation of the brackish zone and the vulnerability of the coastal aquifer, creating a network for continuous monitoring of the quantitative and chemical status of the aquifer through installation of modern telemetry equipment in licensed drilling inside the underground water system and the pilot application of artificial enrichment. b) improve the qualitative and quantitative situation of the underground water systems by submitting proposals for the artificial enrichment and the protection zones of the underground water system. c) create a communication plan, a geoportal and a website for the publication of the results of the project
