Description

The project responds to the diagnosed problems of the city of Radom and its inhabitants: the lack of a strategy for sustainable development of the city, including the role that green areas can play in it, and the failure of the municipal authorities to notice the needs of the inhabitants. The lack of the sense of agency among the inhabitants who cannot effectively influence the local authorities and the lack of space for engagement in local issues is also a challenge. Analysis of strategic documents and activities of the local government reveals contradictions between the proposals of the authorities and the needs of the inhabitants. The city does not have an up-to-date strategy for sustainable development and in the previous strategy the environmental protection was not taken into account. At the same time, the inhabitants of Radom perceive the importance of sustainable development, which is proved by the topics of the projects submitted to the civic budget. In 2021, 208 applications were submitted and most of them concerned sustainable development, but only 46 projects were funded, including 18 applications on topics such as building cycle lanes, environmental protection or ecology. Therefore, in our project, we want to improve communication between the residents and the authorities, and we also take up the challenge of creating a model for intersectoral cooperation. We will start the project with training sessions on dialogue and critical thinking for citizens and officials (20 people). We will conduct two social campaigns under the slogans: Greenery in Radom and The Power of Social Organizations. We will publish materials from the campaigns in three paper editions of the Social Broadcaster and on our website. The project is addressed to the Radom residents (at least 180 people).

Summary of project results

The "Social Broadcast" project is a response to two key problems in Radom:
1. Lack of sustainable development, inability to recognize the need to create a green new order, lack of real participation of residents.
2. Lack of inter-sectoral cooperation and lack of sense of agency in the area of influencing the authorities and one''s own involvement in social matters.
Ad 1.
The city of Radom does not have a reliable and up-to-date Sustainable Development Strategy as of 2021, and in the previous one, in force in 2008-2020, environmental protection was practically not mentioned.

It was important to emphasize the existence (!), importance and influence of NGOs on the social, cultural and economic development of the city
3. "Social Broadcaster as a model of inter-sectoral cooperation" is a construct that animates and engages the Radom community to cooperate and create reality;
- strengthening and using the substantive competences of residents (including officials), - developing mechanisms for diagnosing problems, discovering the sources of difficulties, developing solutions,

A space for social dialogue was created, and the competences of the project participants were strengthened in terms of agency and effective influence on the decisions of local authorities, social issues and living conditions in the city.
The project is a step in developing the concept of an independent forum for social solutions, a local civic medium that encourages people to discover the sources of problems and jointly strive for effective solutions - taking into account various perspectives and interests.
Approximately 200 people from VARIOUS ENVIRONMENTS AND ALL AGE GROUPS were involved in the activities.
The project is a step towards improving inter-sectoral cooperation between local government units (LGUs) and (NGOs) by establishing dialogue, listening and taking into account the perspectives of NGOs in the decision-making process.
Cross-sector cooperation can play a key role in solving local social and environmental problems, provided this relationship changes from one in which J.S.T. uses and plays its dominant role for the benefit of partnership-like relationships.
During the Project in Radom, there was a noticeable change in the environment of non-governmental organizations. The level of acceptance for cooperation has increased instead of the previously dominant competition.
The durability of the results will ensure:
- continuation of work by the social editorial office of Rozwodnik Społeczny
- building an independent, social advisory committee (civic think tank).
- continuing analyzes of the commune''s strategic and program documents
- other activity monitoring the activities of J.S.T.
- collecting and using information obtained, among others, in the mode of access to public information
- activities of a social intervention nature in cases of activities harmful from the perspective of social interest,
- training, information and educational activities.
