Description

Within the project the Crisis Intervention Point RESTART will be created in order to provide psychological, legal and pedagogical support for min. 35 people, inhabitants of the village of Milin and other villages in the Mietków Municipality. Our Foundation has been working for families in the Kąty Wrocławskie and Mietków municipalities since 2010. The most difficult situation is in the village of Milin, which is struggling with such problems as: violence, addictions, dysfunctional families, serious developmental and educational problems of children and young people. As part of our activities in Milin, we have created and supported a network of cooperation between local institutions, especially the library and the village community centre, helping families in difficult situations. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, the library and the village community centre were closed, and activities run by NGOs were suspended. Emotional and educational problems of children and young people, peer and domestic violence, addictions and dysfunctional phenomena in families increased significantly. This was confirmed not only by our observations and conversations with our charges, but also by the data provided by the Municipal Social Care Centre, and observations of teachers and probation officers looking after families. In the Crisis Intervention Point RESTART individual consultations will be offered to help solve specific problems. There will be support groups for people of all ages: adults, children, young people. As part of the Toddler Club, we will examine the situation of the youngest inhabitants of the village and conduct regular educational and integration activities for them. We will launch the Tutoring Emergency, i.e. classes with specialists and youth volunteers, which will help to reduce the educational backlog among students aged 7-17. We will also prepare a report on our activities and present it to the village and municipality authorities.

Summary of project results

The aim of the project was to organize the Restart Crisis Intervention Point in the village community center in Milin. The main goal of the point was psychological, legal and pedagogical assistance for, among others. 35 people, residents of the village of Milin and other villages in the Mietków commune, provided by specialists, aimed at counteracting violence - mainly peer and family violence, which intensified significantly after the sudden closure of institutions cooperating in the village and helping families in difficult situations. The aim of our activities was also to prepare a report on our activities and present it to the village and municipal authorities, as well as to encourage the broadly understood local community to take up grassroots initiatives - all these activities were aimed at returning to the pre-pandemic situation, when the cooperation between the foundation and the - library-community center-village authorities helped families in crisis. The project included 250 hours of group classes and individual consultations with specialists for villagers in all age groups who needed help, individual consultations to help solve specific problems of specific people, support groups (adults, children, youth), activities as part of the Toddler Club. aimed at determining the situation of the youngest village inhabitants and the Saturday Emergency Tutoring Service. The help point was located in the village community center in the village of Milin (it could be used by residents in need from other villages in the commune).

As part of the project implementation, we took the following actions:
- individual meetings with specialists (psychologist, lawyer, educator), the aim of which was to provide specific help for a specific person in solving a specific problem. Anorexia, bulimia, self-harm, peer violence, violence from parents, difficulties in defining one''s own gender identity are the main problems in the group 9-17 years old. For adults, these included alimony matters, domestic violence, bailiff and inheritance matters, depression, parenting failure and matters related to foster care.
- we have launched 3 support groups: for adults, for children aged 5-9 and aged 10-15
-We have launched an Emergency Tutoring Service
-classes for the youngest are also a spectacular success - we planned to provide this form of help to 7 children aged 1.5-4 years, ultimately it was 12 children. 6 children were subjected to a comprehensive psychophysical diagnosis, we prepared educational and therapeutic support plans for them, implemented during classes and at home. The parents of the children, grateful for the activities for the children, renovated the room intended for the activity room on their own, repainted it, laid floor panels and completed the games and toys (used, but various and in very good condition).

Tangible benefits appeared almost immediately - after presenting the purpose of the project activities to the village and commune authorities, the commune authorities decided to launch additional classes in cooperation with the organization. non-governmental organizations (thanks to this, activities with the youngest children and children with educational problems will be able to continue until December 2022, and are currently still being carried out, the village authorities provided free of charge not only the premises for classes, but also a large common room, a kitchen with equipment and a sound system. The parents themselves took a grass-roots initiative and, after the project inaugural meeting, they held their own meeting, during which they decided to renovate the classroom. It was the first grass-roots initiative of residents in many years. Implementation of project activities and publicizing the project in the local community, as well as gained through long-term cooperation the trust of the residents resulted in people willing to take part in the project activities continuously, despite the closure of the list of recipients. Some of the problems were so serious, or the need for specialist support for children was so great, that we decided to increase the number of recipients by almost 20 percent, especially since we had full awareness that they will receive help from us or not at all. In conversations with participants while collecting material for the report, the statement "I can do it, I already understand it, I already know it" kept coming back. In addition to specific knowledge and skills, children and young people, above all, regained faith in themselves, in their own abilities, in the sense of action, which is what the pandemic had completely taken away from them. The results were concretely solved cases or an established plan for solving them, referrals to people and/or institutions dealing with a given case and support of the guardian during the entire process, which resulted - similarly to children - in the sense of their own causative power and the belief that actions make sense. and can bring results, that they can and can act.
