Description

The aim of the project is to spread knowledge about children''s rights among adults. We are producing a podcast ''An Important Young Person'' in which we talk about children''s rights and emphasize the impact we all have on whether children''s rights around the world are respected or violated. Together we can create a world where every child lives in a safe and just environment, in which everyone is equal regardless of the differences that divide them: in appearance, culture, origin, gender or financial status. The project is in line with Article 42 of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, which refers to the need to disseminate information about the principles and provisions of this document. We have been working on behalf of children and young people for more than five years, and for four years we have been dealing with the subject of respect for children''s rights, especially with building awareness of children''s rights. We carry out educational and advocacy activities. Our experience shows that knowledge about children''s rights is not yet widespread, but there is quite a lot of interest in this topic in the society. We invited renowned experts on children''s rights, including former Ombudsman Adam Bodnar, to participate in the podcast. We publish the podcast on major podcast services, including Anchore and Spotify. The direct recipients of the activities are adults from all over the country interested in broadly understood children''s rights, in particular parents and other guardians, pedagogical staff and other people working with children and young people and/or whose work has an influence on the situation of children and young people both in Poland and abroad. Indirect (target) recipients are children, since knowledge of children''s rights among adults affects the situation and life chances of children.

Summary of project results

The aim of the project was to spread knowledge about children''s rights among adults (which is the implementation of Article 42 of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, which mentions the need to spread information about the principles and provisions of this document).

In our project, we recorded 41 episodes of a podcast about children''s rights in the form of conversations with experts on children and their rights. The podcast, titled by us for communication purposes "An important young man - a podcast about children''s rights", is available on popular podcast platforms - Anchore, Spotify, Podcast Addict, Apple Podcasts. Our interlocutors included: Adam Bodnar, Zuzanna Rudzińska-Bluszcz, Anna Alboth, Magdalena Jutrzenka, Alina Czyżewska, Marek Michalak, Agnieszka Bresler, Karol Grygoruk. In the podcast, we discussed children''s rights in various contexts, including: about the protection of children against violence, issues of children''s image, their right to education, the phenomenon of forced labor, radicalization, the rights of LGBTQ+ children and youth, and educational inspirations from Europe. The project''s products are permanent - all recorded conversations, in the form of podcast episodes, will be available for listening even after the project ends. We intend to promote the published episodes on an ongoing basis, also after the project is completed. The entire podcast is many hours of material with high substantive value, which constitutes a knowledge base about children''s rights. The quality of the material can be proven by the list of people with whom we managed to talk as part of the project - outstanding Polish experts on children''s rights/human rights.

We invited 41 experts to the project (we planned 40, so 1 extra) on children''s rights. We recorded and published 41 episodes of the podcast, the podcast was listened to 2,080 times (data generated by the Anchor portal). According to data collected by Anchor, the audience of our podcast (people who listened to individual episodes) is mostly women (44.6%) aged 35-44 (50%). The results we have planned for the application are an increase in knowledge about various issues related to children''s rights (e.g. the right to health, education, rest, privacy, which we talk about in our episodes) among Polish society and an increase in support for the need to protect these rights. We achieved these results thanks to the activities we carried out in the project - the publication of valuable conversations with experts in the field of children''s rights and human rights in Poland, which were listened to over 2,000 times. The podcast met with good reception and interest - individual episodes were often shared and spread on social media. In addition, we managed to establish cooperation with Wrocław organizations (Teacher Improvement Center, Wrocław Center for Social Development), which helped us reach the people we cared about most with the podcast - teachers, educators, people working with children and youth.
