Description

The challenge addressed by this project is the problem of exclusion and marginalisation of young women and girls in Poland. According to a 2020 report by the Centre for Women''s Rights, women, despite being the majority in the society face similar discrimination as minority groups. Women in Poland are poorer than men – the higher the positions, the fewer women who occupy them. In a World Health Organisation study conducted in 42 countries, young Polish women ranked last in terms of self-esteem. Conservative opinions about women prevail in Poland. It is commonly believed that organising family life is the responsibility of women, e.g. mothers of young children should not work.

The main goal of the project is to combat harmful negative stereotypes about women by creating six educational videos on gender equality and anti-discrimination against women. Each film deals with a different stereotype or belief describing the situation of women. We made the videos available via Instagram, Facebook and Tik-Tok. As part of the project, we also organised three webinars and conducted four workshops for teachers and parents. The project is summarised in a publication entitled ''How to fight stereotypes. The situation of young girls at home and at school. Tips and good practices'' with good advice for educators and parents. The beneficiaries of the project are boys and girls aged 15-20, but also their parents and educators. Thanks to the project, awareness of the exclusion and marginalisation of women in Poland will be raised. Young women in Poland will get empowered and become better prepared for satisfactory personal and professional lives.

Summary of project results

The project aimed to change the perception of a woman''s role. Even though girls are getting older, in World Health Organization research conducted in 42 countries, young Polish women came in last place in terms of self-esteem. "If your daughter brings home a certificate with a red stripe (very good one), let''s congratulate her and thank her for her effort. If the certificate has twos and threes (rather bad)  from top to bottom, let''s do exactly the same," says Agnieszka Święch. Instead of giving another reprimand, let''s appreciate the efforts. A growing girl needs to hear: I believe in you. These seem like trivial words, but they give power. The Power with heels project brought into the world of adolescents a chance to change their thinking, but also provoked specific actions.

production of film etudes,

webinars,

workshops for teachers and parents,

an e-book was published

6 short films were produced as part of the Power with heels project. The high quality of the materials used gives a sense of great durability and pride. We believe that over the next few years, the effects of the Power with heels project will be helpful in introducing the desired social change. Film etudes are ideal material for educational lessons and talks with students for the next few years. They raise the still present in society and, unfortunately, quite well-established problem of exclusion of women from social life. We appear at music festivals, conferences and presenting film material shot as part of the Moc na obcasach project.
We also refer on an ongoing basis to the available webinar recordings, which are publicly available and their topics are still relevant and necessary to introduce changes in thinking and perception of the role of women in our society.

6 videos were created, available under the free CC license - the videos were successively published at approximately weekly intervals. In February 2022, we published the first episode of a film etude about social expectations - the viewership was: IG: 15,200 recipients and 2.9 thousand total views. During the entire project, the video about the appearance of: Mon. 23 thousand views on Ig, the etude about emotions gained 11 thousand. views.
1 webinar was conducted in cooperation with the Partner - available on YouTube and on the Lider''s website. 429 people took part in the webinar. 106 people took part in the second webinar and 109 in the third one. Workshops were held for teachers and parents; The workshops showed what inclusive education is all about, supporting the potential of every child, regardless of gender. The presenter talked about the possibilities of effectively strengthening girls and boys and working towards the development of future competences in both sexes.
An e-book publication was produced: "How to fight stereotypes? " The publication discusses the issue of girls'' educational decisions, and suggestions for educators and educational institutions are presented. The topic of domestic violence was also discussed and explained in more detail. In the next part you can read a conversation between Agnieszka Święch and Marta Majchrzak regarding the presence of stereotypes in adolescence - in the family and at school. The final part of the publication is devoted to the discussion of adolescence.
