Description
In 2019, the Rzeszow City Council adopted the ‘Climate Change Adaptation Plan in the Rzeszow City’, which is a vision of actions to be taken by 2030 to either halt or mitigate climate change. We checked that this document is not known to Rzeszow residents. This is why our project is aimed at strengthening pro-climate actions in the city. We are creating a ‘Network for Climate’ connecting representatives of local organisations, companies, informal groups, scientists and citizens in order to publicly consult the implementation of the plan. We are hosting an open ‘Climate Academy’ with lectures by scientists and climate experts. In schools, we will conduct a series of 50 climate debates with the participation of 500 teachers and educators, so that they are better prepared for climate education. We will establish 10 local "Leaders'' Clubs for Climate", in which we will conduct thematic workshops for 100 university and school students. The club members will work out a youth guide ‘Rzeszow for Climate’. We will take part in two outdoor happenings of Skrzydlatorium under the slogan ‘S.O.S. for Climate’. We will encourage the residents of Rzeszów to green their balconies and plant trees. We will plant a MicroPark and sow new flower meadows. We will make a study visit to Iceland and look for support for pro-climate actions based on experiences of Icelandic organisations. The main recipients of the project are children, youth and teachers - they will decide about the future of Rzeszow and the quality of climate education. The project will result in establishing contacts between organisations, companies, associations, formal (scouts) and informal groups (the Youth Climate Strike in Rzeszow) and seniors. Many activities will inspire the media to inform about local climate problems and possible joint climate actions. The project is implemented in partnership with the Rzeszow City Hall, that will provide organizational support and infrastructure for the project activities.
