Description
The idea behind the project is to use the fascinating stories of historical public spaces as basis for artistic concepts that are implemented through modern technologies, thus amplifying the experience of the visitors who want to discover these places. The Norwegian partner of the project is Christian Westblikk, a cultural entrepreneur who will help us establish connections with Norwegian visual artists and will do a workshop in Romania for the project team. The first public space to be transformed by the Magic Garden team is the Garden of the Roman Catholic Episcopalian Palace in Oradea, Romania. We chose this venue for its great potential and because of the openness of its administrators to collaborate in promoting the space. In this venue, we will do an art installation exhibition which will have the history of the Palace as inspiration for the artistic theme. We will do 6 decorative installations and 6 interactive installations, which will use modern technologies, such as augmented reality or kinect. There will be a series of 8 street art performances that will enhance the experience of participants. We aim to have at least 3000 visitors to the exhibition, both locals and tourists, all ages. The objectives of the project are to promote local cultural heritage as well as make modern art more accessible to the public, as well as developing new audiences.
Summary of project results
The Magic Garden project is based on the desire to highlight the story and history of spaces considered national cultural heritage using artistic installations and multimedia that use modern art technologies. The first edition of the project took place in the Garden of the Roman Catholic Episcopal Palace of Oradea due to the familiarity of the promoter with the history of the city, but also of the actual place. The Garden / Park - with the building recently rehabilitated by the municipality, represents one of the most valuable edifices built in the Baroque style in Romania. Magic Garden aims to highlight the cultural heritage of the Baroque Palace through 6 artistic installations and 6 multimedia installations brought together in a special 30-day exhibition. The exhibition is complemented by street art and animation shows that take the 3,000 spectators in a unique experience of rediscovering the local cultural heritage.
Following public consultations with the representatives of the local community and local authorities, the artistic concept of the project was developed. A public call was launched for the selection of artists. The Magic Garden exhibition was available to the public for 30 days and included 6 art installations.
Through the project, a historical documentation of the location, the Garden of the Roman-Catholic Episcopal Palace in Oradea was carried out and, subsequently, an open call was left for the selection of artists from Romania and Norway in order to create the 6 artistic installations. Thus, the Magic Garden exhibition was organized and more than 400 guided tours were conducted during the 30 days it was available to the public. The total number of participants was over 7,700 people. For a complete experience, the project also developed a mobile application that was available for free during the exhibition.
