Description

The project offers missing educational services intended for children from the localities in Slaný endangered by social exculsion. The activities consist of a preschool course (two sessions a week) and two couching sessions (each once a week). The couching sessions will cover both group couching as well as individual couching in the families. The goal of the project is to help the children from the Roma communities of Slaný by possessing a minimal education to the preschool children to enable them enter and complete successfully standard primary school, while avoiding special school education. The project is designed for 35 children and their families.

Summary of project results

The project fulfilled a need of educational opportunities for socially excluded children from Slaný town. Its main aim was to increase chances of these children for successful entering and completing of basic education, to prevent children’s transfer to so called „special“ schools and to motivate children and their families to positive attitude to education and school preparation. Within the project we have therefore organized preschool courses (twice a week) as well as a group and individual extra classes (once a week). There were 22 children subscribed into preschool club and 19 children to the group extra classes – 3 of them were given also individual classes. We have also cooperated with 24 parents, who were in contact with the organization during the courses or special office hours. In order to improve children’s situation as much as possible, we have started close cooperation with 5 local educational institutions, who gave us a feedback regarding problems or strides of children. Five local volunteers joined the project as extra classes’ tutors. They were trained and afterwards successfully participated on group as well as individual extra classes. The project was also focused on capacity building of Tosara organization. The strategic and fundraising plan oriented on financing, programs and organizational processes were created under supervision of external lecturer. Thanks to our project, 41 socially excluded children, or their families from Slaný, have better approach to preschool education and regular school preparation. In fact, they have better chance to enter and complete their basic education regularly. Looking at the preschool club, average improvement in preschool skills and knowledge was 21 % (due to the internal school maturity diagnostics).
