Description
The presented project solves the most pressing problems of the dance genre
- where to find resources and where exactly to invest effectively in professional dance art,
- implementation of a defined status of a professional artist in Czech legislation, including sufficiently effective protection and support of the dance profession with regard to the specifics of work and conditions for the performance of the profession of dancer and the inclusion of this issue in the objectives of the cultural policy of the Czech Republic for the coming period.
The key activities of the project focus on the elaboration of a spatial and financial analysis of the needs and conditions for the performance of artistic work of the independent dance scene of the Czech Republic versus publicly established theaters with ballet ensembles. Furthermore, the processing of analysis and definition of the status of a professional artist. Last but not least, to strengthen the skills and competencies of individual members of the Association of Dance Artists of the Czech Republic, which will be implemented in the form of webinars, educational seminars and professional workshops (with the participation of foreign experts).
The new online communication platform TANUM (TANeční UMění, i.e. Dance Art) will serve to support the cooperation of members of the Association of Dance Artists of the Czech Republic and members of the Strategic Team from regional cultural centers and subsequent communication with representatives of the public.
Summary of project results
The TANUM project was implemented throughout the Czech Republic with the aim of providing a solution to the issues and conditions faced by professional dancers. The project addressed the most pressing challenges. The project boosted the skills and competencies of individual members of the Association of Czech Dance Artists.
The project''s primary objective was to conduct two comprehensive analyses. The first, a Spatial and Financial Needs Analysis, aimed to compare conditions between the Czech Republic''s independent dance companies and publicly funded ballet companies. This quantitative study examined factors such as financial resources, working spaces, salaries, gender equality, and the challenges posed by labor laws. The second analysis focused on establishing a legal framework for professional dancers. It delved into the demanding nature of the profession, outlining rights, responsibilities, and the criteria for obtaining professional artist status. To achieve these goals, the project involved collaboration with both domestic and international experts, facilitated knowledge sharing through workshops, and engaged in dialogue with government officials.
The project aimed to develop comprehensive analyses and integrate the defined status of a professional artist into Czech law. It focused on protecting and supporting dance professionals, considering the unique challenges of their work. Additionally, the project analyzed the needs of dancers and advocated for their inclusion in the Czech Republic''s cultural policy.
