OBJECTIVE:

develop cultural collaboration between artists and participants of cultural life as well as strengthen bilateral relations between Polish institutions and institutions from Norway and Iceland

OPERATIONAL GOALS:

popularize cultural heritage

EVENTS:

  • an online seminar on finding heritage today (2 days);
  • conservation, digitalization and documentation of 4 certificate books as well as digitalization of 50 graphics, making "treasures" from the archive of the Academy of Fine Arts available to the public - a case study, 1 study visit in Cracow with the participation of all partners, exhibitions;
  • finding graphic arts collections (processing, digitalization);
  • workshops on heritage finding;
  • graphics workshops at the Academy of Fine Arts: 2-day workshops on traditional graphics techniques at the Academy of Fine Arts for representatives of the partners, including students, within the framework of the study visit; 2-day graphics workshops for the Academy of Fine Arts students, run by Icelandic graphic designers;
  • showcasing graphics by artists recommended by the IS partner in Cracow''s public space on city-light and billboard carriers;
  • preparation of an audience development strategy as well as a strategy for development of entrepreneurship in culture.

Summary of project results

The Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków (Akademia Sztuk Pięknych im. Jan Matejki) is the oldest Polish university of fine arts. It remains faithful to its magnificent tradition, and at the same time it is open to the challenges and needs of the present day, constantly developing in terms of structure, staff, courses and methods of education, as well as activity on the international arena.

The project responded to the following defined needs of the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków as the initiator and Beneficiary of the project: - the need to maintain and establish new contacts with foreign Partners, especially European ones, in order to develop international cooperation as a source of inspiration for contemporary challenges in the field of art and artistic creation; - making the first attempt to ''find'' and consolidate the collection of prints scattered in various departments of the Academy of Fine Arts in order to make it available in whole or in parts in the Academy of Fine Arts Museum; - presenting to the public - both in a direct form and on the Internet - both the ''treasures'' of ASP and contemporary artistic works - showing the achievements of Polish conservation and digitization and at the same time exchanging experiences with Partners in this field; - opening the Academy up to the public, thus breaking the perception of the Academy as a university dealing only with education; - using non-obvious spaces to build relationships with new audiences; - raising the cultural competence of current and potential audiences through the organisation of open workshops and art camps; - exchange of experiences and good practices with Partners in the field of analysis of issues related to the development of cultural entrepreneurship and audience development with particular reference to the situation of covid and postcovid pandemic; - practical training of staff in the field of artistic education with a view to their professional preparation in the process of career development; - aestheticization of public space, introducing artistic content into spaces dedicated to other functions but fulfilling an exhibition role (billboards, citylights); - inclusion of the Ukrainian community in Krakow in the circulation of social and cultural life; - inclusion of people with disabilities in the participation in culture.

Wihin the project following activities and undertakings were implemented:

 1. Online seminar on finding heritage.

2. Conservation, digitization and making "treasures" from the Archive of the Academy of Fine Arts (ASP) available - case study, study visit, exhibition

3. Finding of graphic collections (processing, digitization). 50 graphics were selected, elaborated, digitized and made available digitally, and the process was presented in a virtual form to the Partners as a case study in the process of creating a collection for the ASP Museum. 3 persons recommended by the Partners took  part in the study visit. Then the exhibition of graphics took place - virtual and VR.

4. Heritage finding workshops for children and families promoting cultural heritage.

5. Graphics workshops in  ASP studios for the Partners'' representatives during their study visit. Created works were presented on the exhibition. Norwegian graphic artists conducted graphic arts workshops for ASP students.

7. Elaboration of a strategy for audience development and for development of entrepreneurship in culture. etc.

The project developed cultural cooperation between artists and participants of cultural life and strengthened bilateral relations between institutions from PL, NO and IS.

The project builded a permanent bridge between tradition and modernity and enables Partners to operate in newareas.

Within the project:

- 15 artistic events were carried out as a result of cooperation with partner institution under the project ( 5  fine arts and visual arts events, 8 events dedicated to cultural heritage, 2 cultural and artistic education events);

- 534266 people attended the cultural and artistic events organized by the project (including  children from Poland and Ukraine participating in the workshops, participants of the exhibitions: graphics in the traditional and VR; in public space public space tec.)

- 60 artists ans specialists 

- 12 professional staff were trained 

- 1616 promotional materials were prepared like  posters - 1015 pcs, rollup - 1 pcs, wall calendars - 600 pcs.

 

Summary of bilateral results

Bilateral cooperation was multidimensional and brought a number of benefits for partners and Beneficiary. The partners were active participants in the events planned within the framework of the project, including participating in the online seminar on 23-24 November 2021. Each of them had a presentation:- from Iceland from the association Islensk Grafik Elisabet Stefansdóttir / Beta Gagga,gave a paper titled "In search of my heritage," while SoffiaSaemundsdóttir presented a speech titled "Where to go from here anicelandic aproach".- From Norway: Victoria Rowena Brown gave a presentation titled., "Transforming Reduction into Multi-Block Relief Printing Integrating ''found''knowledge of living archives into the pedagogic delivery at Kunsthagskolen i Oslo,Norway", while Prof. Jan StefanPetterson gave a lecture titled."Researching historical print archives to integrate ''found'' knowledge into post-digitalprintmaking workshops". Moreover, On 22 and 23. 05.2023, in the Woodcut Studio of Dr. Marta Bożyk, held aa two-day workshop of students with Icelandic women artists. The classes with studentswere led by two graphic designers Anna Snædís Sigmarsdóttir and Elísabet Stefánsdóttir from Islensk Grafik in Reykjavik. During the workshop, students, creating books,worked with monoprint and collograph techniques. The students, experimentingprepared their own art book prints.Additionally, during the study visits to partner countries carried out within the framework of the project, meetings were organized with partners at which the aim was to exchange experiences in audience development and entrepreneurship development.
