Description

The municipalities of Ruse, Tutrakan, Slivo Pole and Vetovo aim to improve their waste management systems by establishing specific recycling models. Based on a study on the consumption patterns of the population, the local authorities will launch waste collection and recycling systems for the following type of waste: from construction work (through open asymmetric Skip-lift Containers), waste in administrative buildings (by installing bins for separate collection), biodegradable waste (through equipment and containers for plants and wood) and waste recycling through mobile centres (where all types of generated household waste will be collected and sorted in separate containers).

The project will help the municipalities to increase the share of recycled waste by 10.5% and will help their citizens to learn new ways to create sustainable solutions within their communities.

The project activities include the delivery and installation of mobile centres for separate waste collection in the Municipality of Ruse and the Municipality of Vetovo for almost all types of waste generated in one household will be transferred to them- paper, plastic, glass, metals, grease, electrical and electronic equipment, hazardous household waste and others in various containers. Another initiative is the delivery of containers for construction waste for the Municipality of Ruse and the chain mini jaw crushing machine for Tutrakan Municipality which will also contribute to prevent the generation of waste.

The information and publicity of the project is another key element. This is why the information about the project, its objectives, activities and expected results, the contribution of the EEA FM 2014-2021 and the donor countries will be provided through various public events and a website in Bulgarian and English, which can be found here: https://en.green-together.eu/.

Summary of project results

The main challenge the project addresed  was the reduction of the amount of waste and, when its generation cannot be avoided, to promote its use as a resource and to achieve higher levels of recycling and safe disposal of waste.

The main goal of this project was the improvement of waste management and use it as a resource by implementing 4 municipal schemes for separate collection and recycling of waste in the municipalities of Ruse, Tutrakan, Slivo Pole and Vetovo in order to achieve improved environment status, reduction of the pollution effects and other human actions, the improvement of life quality of the population in the 4 municipalities to ensure equal access for all stakeholders, to provide a cleaner and more comfortable living environment. Those 4 municipal schemes were dividd into the following categories: schemes for waste sorting and recycling of waste through mobile centers; schemes for waste sorting and recycling of construction waste; schemes for waste sorting and recycling of waste in administrative buildings; schemes for waste sorting and recycling of biodegradable waste through the purchase of equipment and containers for green and wood waste.

As part of the project activities,  the project  included the initative to install and deliver mobile centers for separate waste collection in the Municipality of Ruse and the Municipality of Vetovo. Almost all types of waste generated in one household will be transferred to them and the stations will accept paper, plastic, glass, metals, grease, electrical and electronic equipment, hazardous household waste and others in various containers.
