Description
The idea of FORHESIT stems from the assumptions of: (i) the need to improve the effectiveness of the career guidance system, (ii) the need to develop the educational offer at the higher level.
The aim of the project is to develop an IT tool “Horizons of the future”, supporting professional development and creation of scenarios for future career development of students and graduates.
The target group of the project consists of students, graduates, career advisers and academic teachers.
The scope of activities within the project includes the development of foresight methodology for the needs of the future-oriented labour market, development of the IT tool, development of a manual for users and testing of the tool.
For the purposes of the project, an original innovative set of foresight methods (STEEPVL, SWOT, scenario) will be used and adapted to the IT tool.
The planned modifications of the IT tool include: development of the module for generating STEEPVL factors influencing the research area (e.g. labour market, education system, enterprise, personal and professional development); adding of the SWOT analysis module enabling categorisation of STEEPVL factors into strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats; development of the module for building scenarios by among others adding competencies required and desired on the labour market.
Project results include: the modified IT tool, foresight methodology for adapting to and shaping the future of labour market, manual for using the IT tool.
The tool, available in open resources, is meant for the use by career advisers, university teachers for the needs of vocational training and by students and graduates to create their own career paths. Ultimately, the ability of critical reflection in terms of alternative future scenarios will enable labour market players to better adapt to the current and future market realities and improve their competitiveness on the labour market
Summary of project results
The aim of the FORhesIT project was to develop an IT system to support higher education and career development using foresight methods, i.e. interdisciplinary, participatory planning methods and tools, oriented towards action in a medium to long-term time horizon.
The idea of the project stemmed from the need to improve the competitiveness and effectiveness of the career guidance system and the need to develop the educational offer at the higher level in a way that would provide students and graduates with better preparation for functioning in the labour market.
Thanks to the results achieved, project allows users to plan their professional future in the face of uncertainty and unpredictability of the environment. It enables the creation of alternative scenarios for the development of the labour market, building alternative paths for individual career development.
The 2-year work in the project was divided into several stages, which at the same time corresponded to the planned results
IO1 Development of a foresight methodology for the needs of the future labour market (the methodology includes several foresight methods; it enables their use at the individual and group level)
IO2 Modification and development of the IT tool (the proposed IT tool is an implication of the above-mentioned foresight methodology; thanks to the proposed methods and IT solutions, it supports the process of creating alternative scenarios of professional development by offering the possibility of individual and group work in 3 languages)
IO3 Computer-aided process of creating scenarios with the use of the IT tool FORhesIT (a Handbook for users of the IT tool with lesson plans has been developed, which supports users in the correct use of technical and methodological solutions; the proposals of lesson plans prepared by the project partnership seem to be particularly valuable)
IO4 Pilot testing of the IT tool FORhesIT (testing carried out in Poland and Norway included the path of individual and group work)
The FOrhesIT project is of particular importance, also because the developed tools can be used by all those who care about their professional future and plan their career paths, including:
- academic lecturers and counsellors from career offices, using them to conduct creative workshops focused on the future of the labour market.
-students and graduates who will be able to carry out an analysis of their own conditions, individual career paths and personal development.
Summary of bilateral results
The active participation of the partner institution from Norway - Norwegian Board of Technology in the implementation of the FORhesIT project brought many benefits both to the cooperation itself (enriching it with the rich experience of institutions from the Donor State) and contributing to the quality of the results obtained. The Norwegian partner has an extensive portfolio of activities and projects using foresight methods in the processes of assessing new technologies and their impact on society. The NBT team is also experimenting with applications of Artificial Intelligence. This allowed him, at the stage of testing the IT tool Create the Future, to propose AI to generate career development scenarios for users. This allows for the development of the main result of the project (IT tools) and opens up opportunities for further cooperation in the area of foresight methods and their use, m.in. in education, scientific research and/or creation of scenarios for the development of various areas of life important for individual citizens as well as for the general public
