The districts of Velky Krtis and Poltar, where project activities will take place are among the least developed districts in Slovakia where there is very few job opportunities and services for families with disabilities are completely absent. The project focuses on supporting employment opportunities for people with disabilities (Asperger''s syndrome and autism) and also for people from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. It will provide them with training in financial literacy, business fundamentals and online business and security, all adapted to their specific needs. The aim is also to prepare the conditions for the creation of a social enterprise. Through activities in two day centers in Lucenec and Velky Krtis, work-rehabilitation program will be implemented for the target groups to help them acquire practical skills. Project will enable meetings, exchange of experiences and support for these families in a safe and welcoming environment.
Summary of project results
The main challenge in the location where the project was implemented is the low availability of support, services and opportunities for the development of young people and their families. Primary target groups in the project were children, young people and families with autism, Asperger''s syndrome and other types of health disabilities, but also families from a socially disadvantaged environment or families with multiple disadvantages - for example, Roma families with a child with autism. Thanks to the project, we were able to implement regular leisure activities in two day centers - Lucenec and Velke Zlievce during the twelve months period. Sports activities, creative workshops, music therapy and canistherapy as well as trips to the surrounding area were organized. We involved up to 87 participants. For young people and adults with neurodevelopmental differences, we have prepared educational activities tailored to their educational needs. We guided young people through the topics of internet safety, financial literacy and entrepreneurship. 31 participants took part in this trainings, compared to the planned 20. Project naturally brought the themes of acceptance of diversity into the communities where it was implemented. Created cooperations with the local government, volunteers and schools will allow us to continue the activities after the end of the project.
