Description

The project aims to contribute to the fight against bullying in schools with a focus on combating discrimination and promoting children''s rights.
Roma people are one of the most disadvantaged groups in terms of participation in education (high absenteeism and school dropout rates), but also access to social and economic resources. One of the reasons for the lack of participation in school is bullying and discrimination based on ethnicity. Within the project, we address this phenomenon that exists in 3 communities, namely Ciorogarla and Darvari, Ilfov county and Bucharest, sector 5.
For this objective, two types of activities will be organized: educational activities - drama workshops - and awareness activities - toolkit and interactive videos. The toolkit will contain a set of instruments specific to the forum theatre method as a non-formal mean of raising awareness of the factors that determine bullying behaviors, as well as understanding how to prevent these behaviors. The interactive videos will be distributed on the project''s online channels, as well as on a tour of 8 schools in Ilfov county where they will be the basis for debates on how to report and fight bullying.
The direct beneficiaries of the project are 40 pupils (aged 11-18). They will participate in 12 theatre workshop sessions, a forum theatre performance, an interactive video and the development of the toolkit. Indirect beneficiaries will be both the forum audience in the three schools and in the high schools (pupils, teachers, and parents) and participants in the interactive video mini-tour events in the eight schools in Ilfov County. The added value brought by the partners consists in the selection of the participants (students from the schools where they study), as well as in maintaining the link with them and disseminating information among the County School Inspectorates.

Summary of project results

This project aimed to raise awareness and combat bullying in schools by organising educational activities and creating tools. Forum theatre sessions were organised for 68 pupils from 4 schools to equip them with the tools to identify and combat bullying. The activities were facilitated by professional actors and explored the mechanisms and skills needed to identify abusive behaviour. In the next phase of the project, 4 videos were produced in which the workshop participants acted as actors and addressed themes of their choice. Two performances of the plays were organised with an audience of students, teachers and parents. A tour to promote the clips was carried out in 8 schools in the county where the participants could discuss with the trainers and received information about bullying awareness and combating bullying. The public reaction was very positive. As a result of the workshops, a guide for teachers and educators to identify and combat bullying was developed and disseminated. Through these activities, both teachers and students became more aware of the issue of bullying. The project contributed to raising awareness of bullying among teachers and students and also provided tools and resources for educators to identify and combat bullying. The project also brought unplanned results, so the popularity of the workshops and the positive feedback from the public led to the organisation of workshops as part of the REACTIV: laboratory of performative experiences for teenagers event. The project helped bring the issue of bullying to the forefront and offered practical solutions to combat it. One of the lessons learned was the importance of involving students in developing anti-bullying resources and the impact this has on their mobilisation.
