Description

The project specifically aims at tackling the discussion on "gender ideology“ by two-steps small online campaign based on analysis of the available toxic content, on-line campaign utilizing lessons learned from the previous campaign aimed at much broader audience, a series of education workshops on gender equality at high schools with a particular focus on schools with a high percentage of Roma pupils and transfer of know-how from Norway with experienced experts on gender equality in the form of expert conferences, and an input into campaign materials and educational materials.

Summary of project results

The project sought to address key challenges related to understanding and promoting gender equality. It aimed to clarify what gender equality truly means, emphasize its importance in terms of justice, human rights, and individual freedom, and highlight how it empowers society by enhancing freedom of choice for both men and women. These goals were addressed through a combination of online campaigns and in-person educational activities, reaching a wide audience to promote informed perspectives on gender equality.

The project implemented a series of activities both online and offline to comprehensively address gender equality:

  • Online Campaigns: Social media campaigns were launched to debunk myths, provide factual information, and counteract disinformation surrounding gender equality. The campaigns engaged influencers and received significant public attention.
  • Workshops in Schools: In-person workshops were conducted in 25 secondary schools across 18 districts, engaging 1,417 students in discussions about gender equality.
  • Educational Publications: Two publications were developed — one tailored for students and the other for educators. These resources were made available both online and offline to maximize accessibility and support inclusive discussions in classrooms.
  • Study Trips and Public Discussions: Study trips and public forums were organized to enhance knowledge sharing and enable participants to learn from practical examples and best practices.

The project achieved substantial outcomes that benefited various groups:

  • General Public: Through the social media campaigns, which reached over 1 million people, the project raised public awareness about gender equality and successfully countered the growing trend of disinformation.
  • Students and Teachers: The workshops directly engaged students, fostering an inclusive environment for learning about gender equality and encouraging teachers to support open discussions in their classrooms.
  • Educational Impact: The two publications provided structured resources that help students and teachers navigate gender equality topics effectively. These materials serve as valuable tools in promoting understanding and respectful dialogue in educational settings.
  • Knowledge Transfer: The project, in partnership with the Norwegian NGO KUN, created a strong foundation for knowledge exchange, enhancing the project’s educational approach and contributing to its long-term impact.

Summary of bilateral results

The project greatly benefited from its partnership with the Norwegian NGO KUN, which has extensive expertise in gender equality and education. This collaboration enabled valuable knowledge sharing, allowing the project team to integrate KUN’s best practices and years of experience. The transfer of know-how strengthened the project’s approach, enriched the educational materials, and enhanced the overall impact and sustainability of the project, providing a solid foundation for addressing gender equality effectively in Slovakia. The bilateral cooperation resulted in several key outcomes. Collaborative efforts led to the development of educational materials and campaign strategies, as well as successful study trips to Norway, where insights into Norwegian approaches to gender equality challenges were shared. These exchanges provided practical knowledge for the project’s implementation. The cooperation produced two educational resources: a student publication and a teacher’s guide, both designed to equip users with structured knowledge and tools on gender equality. Additionally, the project team at the Institute for Human Rights benefitted from capacity-building sessions, which further strengthened their expertise through direct knowledge sharing with the donor partner. The collaboration with KUN is set to continue, as both organizations successfully secured additional funding for future joint initiatives. Connections established during prior study trips have also led to a new partnership with Reform, expanding the project’s reach to include further activities focused on gender equality and the prevention of gender-based violence. This expanded network will support the long-term sustainability of their ongoing work and the continued impact of their collaborative efforts.
