The overall objective of the project is to improve transnational cultural cooperation and exchange of good practices between Bulgaria and Norway in the field of promotion of folklore and traditions. The project’s specific objectives are to improve access to cultural heritage for young people from small settlements in the South Central Planning Region, including young people from ethnic minorities, and to increase the capacity of the Community Centre “Obedinenie 1913” and 50 community centers in the South Central Planning Region of Bulgaria in the field of attracting audiences and knowledge transfer through training of the Community centres'' expert staff to improve their professional competences and skills.

The project activities include preparation of the performance/spectacle “Traditions unite us” (and its presentation in 10 small settlements in the regions of Kardzhali, Smolyan and Plovdiv and in Norway), creation of a children''s school for making dolls with traditional costumes and traditional masks, organization of a traveling exhibition of puppets with folk costumes and outdoor open lessons in making dolls in 10 settlements in Bulgaria. The Norwegian partner will contribute significantly with its many years of experience in the field of events in the field of education, culture and arts, as well as through the capacity of Bjerkaker Learning Lab in the management of similar activities in different formats and scales.

Summary of project results

The project aims to improve access to cultural heritage for young people from small settlements in the South Central Planning Region, including young people from ethnic minorities. Increasing the capacity of the National Community Center "Unity 1913" and 50 community centers from the South Central Planning Region, in the field of attracting audiences and transferring knowledge through training of expert staff of the community centers to improve their professional competencies and skills.

The project activities include the preparation and creation of a children''s school for making dolls with folk costumes and traditional masks, as well as the creation of a performance "Traditions unite us", which presents the folklore wealth: songs and dances, natural landmarks, as well as the specifics of the six main folklore regions of Bulgaria. The aim of the performance is to show the common traditions and folklore of the different ethnic groups living in Bulgaria and the peoples inhabiting Europe. This activity also includes the purchase of costumes for the dances.

The project results include the preparation of a performance "Traditions Unite Us" and its traveling tour for primary school students and community representatives in the villages of Chernoochene, Momchilgrad, Dzhebel, Kirkovo, Most, Ardino, Krumovgrad, Momchilovtsi, Kurtovo Konare and Kardzhali. The project also included the preparation and creation of a children''s school for making dolls with folk costumes and traditional masks, the presentation of the performance "Traditions Unite Us" in Norway, a workshop with Norwegian folklore interpreters, and a traveling exhibition of dolls with folk costumes and open lessons on making dolls in 10 settlements.

Summary of bilateral results

The Norwegian partner shared good practices and extensive experience for attracting audiences in Norway, and provided valuable input to the overall results and lasting impact from the project, both in Bulgaria and in Norway,
