Description

The aim of the project is to train kindergarten and primary school teachers to be able to use inclusive approaches when working with children and pupils in the classroom. Its goal is tosupport the involvement of disadvantaged groups, including Roma children, in education. The project team will create three model educational programmes for kindergartens and primary schools, implement 10 self-experience seminars for teachers and support teachers in testing the created programmes in teaching. The Norwegian partner will participate in transnational teaching, a seminar and a conference. The educational activities within the project are based on the inclusion of practical and experiential learning lessons using the topic of food, cooking and dining and related habits, stories and games. Through these activities, knowledge, skills and key competencies of teachers and students are developed. Education based on practical activities with tangible outcomes, where every pupil has the opportunity to experience success, is an important and not yet fully appreciated component of inclusive education. The innovativeness of the project lies both in the non-traditional content focused on the topic of cooking and dining and in the emphasis on activating practical activities in relation to teachers and pupils. Cooking and dining together is an area where the cultural differences of the majority population and Roma population stand out, and at the same time it is an area that can connect and bring different cultures together. The Norwegian partner will work together with us to create the above educational programmes, including the “Norwegian lessons”, and will lead several practical workshops for teachers in the Czech Republic. The project fulfills one of the basic principles of inclusive education: it stimulates appropriate tasks and challenges in teaching and enables everyone to participate and experience success.

Summary of project results

Nothing brings people together like food. We can certainly agree that a primary school graduate should be able to cook a simple meal for himself and his friends. But that cooking together at school can also be used as a tool for the development of additional knowledge and skills, to support desirable attitudes and the development of practically all key competences? Of course! And in addition, cooking and dining together is an excellent tool for inclusion. For example, when it comes to Roma children and pupils. Roma and food, Roma and fire, Roma and stories - are they clichés? It doesn''t have to be that way.

Cooking and dining together is a much more suitable method for educating (not only) Roma pupils and gaining their interest than the usual explanation-exercise-test. The introductory motivational seminar for teachers and new methodical material from Skutečně zdravá škola (Really Healthy School) with the best Romani and Norwegian recipes as inspiration (not only) for cooking classes is proof of this. Our Norwegian partner (secondary school from Nannestad) contributed great recipes and supported us throughout the project.

162 involved teachers, 295 pupils, 12 schools across the country. If we find a common taste, perhaps we will find a common language more easily.

Summary of bilateral results

The project partner (secondary school in Nannestad) collaborated on the creation of educational programs. The benefit for the project was the enrichment of the topic with the topic of Norwegian cuisine and culture. Through cooking, one can get to know another culture better, which contributes to understanding and tolerance.
